1973 Porsche 911 S 2.7 Martini Race Replica

** NOTE: This auction has now been extended **

Highlights

  • Competition ready
  • Exceptionally low mileage
  • Full Martini race livery

The Appeal

The 911 is one of the most iconic cars in the world, its distinctive shape is recognised the world over.

With only occasional use for club level events the mileage has stayed very low year-on-year and with the extensive upgrades the owner has carried out, this 911 S presents a fantastic opportunity to acquire one of these excellent cars.
With a full aluminium roll cage, Cobra bucket seats and clip on Momo steering wheel the inside looks almost as good as the Martini race replica outside.

Speaking of racing the owner describes the car as “set up for fun competition use”, with the stripped down interior and many uprated and upgraded components this 911 S will put a smile on anyone's face.

It’s easy to see the care the current owner has taken with this car and it’s not one he intended to sell, but unfortunately due to injury he is no longer able to use it and has decided to give someone else the opportunity to enjoy this fantastic car.

The History and Paperwork

  • V5 Present and correct
  • MOT to May 2023
  • Invoice dated May 2022 for oil and filter change, replacement gearbox oil and a new battery
  • A range of invoices from Charles Ivey Porsche specialists ranging from 1989 to 1991 for extensive work including a full engine and gearbox rebuild at 15,686 miles
  • A letter from Porsche UK confirming the date of manufacture as 1st December 1973
  • Original owners manual

The Interior

  • Extensively modified for competition use
  • Very good condition throughout
  • Cobra seats
  • Momo clip-on steering wheel
  • SRS harnesses
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Stripped back door cards
  • Aluminium roll cage
  • Map light and stopwatches for the navigator
  • No radio
Gone is the plush leather seating and luxurious finish of the original interior, opening the door and dropping in down behind the Momo steering wheel you instantly know this car is built for serious driving.

Extensively customised by the current owner as a competition car, the interior of this 911 S is all business.

The door cards have been stripped back to the essentials, the radio has been removed (not that you'll miss it with the sound this car makes!) and in place of the interior comforts there is a full roll cage, Cobra bucket seats with SRS harnesses and fire extinguishers.
All of the interior presents well and this is evidently a car that has been very well cared for.

The owner informs us that the seats and harnesses are now out of date and so would need replacing for any competition use that requires FIA certification, but we see this car as perfect for local club level events laying down some quick times up your local hill climb.

The Exterior

  • Very good overall condition
  • Full Martini racing livery
  • Porsche “cookie cutter” wheels in very good condition 6J on the front and 7J on the rear
  • External ignition isolation switch
  • Light lenses, trim and brightwork all presents well
  • Some stone chipping to the front
  • Various decals from events the car has entered
The 911 is a fantastic looking car whose design has stood the test of time.

The full Martini race livery looks fantastic on the distinctive 911 shape and the car as a whole makes an excellent impression.
The car is in very good condition overall with some stone chipping visible on the front, but otherwise presenting very well. It benefits from the original Porsche “cookie cutter” alloy wheels and the combination with the Martini design looks gorgeous.

All of the light lenses trim and chrome present very well and as with the interior it’s easy to see that this car has been well cared for.

The Mechanics

  • Extensive work undertaken in the late 80’s/early 90’s including engine and gearbox rebuild
  • Starts easily on a turn of the key
  • Idles well and sounds superb
  • MOT to May 2023
  • The owner informs us that he has fitted new carbs, quickshift gearbox, uprated handbrake, uprated brake pads and front strut braces amongst other things
  • Stored indoors
As with the rest of the car it’s clear to see that it has been well cared for mechanically.

Always kept dry stored by the current owner, the underside of the car presents very well and the engine bay is in similarly very good condition.

The car underwent significant work between 1989 and 1991 with Charles Ivey (porsche specialists) that included a full engine and gearbox rebuild and as the car has only been used for competitions it has covered comparatively few miles since.

Since then the current owner has carried out much of the maintenance himself and the car has been further adapted for competition use.
Whilst this 911 might look great, it sounds even better. It starts easily with a turn of the key and idles smoothly. The owner reports that it drives exactly as it should, accelerating well, changing quickly and braking fast and straight.

Summary

We love a 911 and one that has been so well equipped for competition is a car that can’t fail to excite any petrolhead.

Exceptionally well cared for by the current owner this is a great opportunity to own one of these fantastic cars that ready to enjoy.
