The Appeal
Like fine wine, the early R107s are maturing nicely. With great details like the earlier trim and ‘Mexican Hat’ alloys, they exhibit an effortless style that is reflected in market interest. These early cars also benefit from Historic Vehicle status that makes them tax, ULEZ and MOT exempt.
With its simple white over black colour scheme, this lovely 195bhp 350SL demonstrates all those points. The black on silver plates, whitewalls and those alloys add to the style. It is in very good conditon inside and out, thanks to a combination of sparing use - just 100,000 miles from new - and regular maintenance by its handful of keepers.
Recent work includes a top end engine rebuild costing £4,000 and overhaul of the brakes. The car is reported to run and drive very well. That lightly rumbling V8 would make a great soundtrack to any drive, short or long, UK or trans-continental. And this car looks ready to go.
