The Appeal

Introduced in 1967 by Mercury, and based upon the ever-legendary Mustang, the Cougar was one of the marque's most esteemed products for good reason. Boasting decidedly classical elements on an adapted bodyshell, the Cougar's distinctive central grille and squared-off nose made made look odd to modern eyes, but in its day was amongst the most stylish cars in the USA.

Often touted as a 'plush pony car', the MK2 Cougar opted for higher-end powertrains and became better reputed for its ability as a sports car in its own right. It was the last one to rely on the time-honoured Mustang underpinnings, too!

This particular 1973 example, finished in its original bright red paintwork with the desirable XR-7 trim, is a fine one - with an impressive spec, plenty of features and a Cleveland V8 powerplant. The car has been meticulously maintained and upgraded by specialists, and is still providing that evocative V8 soundtrack.

With only 56,000 miles on the odometer, which the vendor believes to be correct, and a comprehensive history file, this Cougar XR7 is a compelling choice for any classic car enthusiast.
