The Appeal
Whereas earlier revisions of the E-Type’s design were minimal, made primarily in order to meet the requirements of the US export market, the Series III was altogether a different car from its predecessors. Most notably, the XK straight-six was swapped out for a 5.3-litre V12, transforming the car’s character from a sports car to a grand tourer. Just 15,287 Series III E-Types were made, making it the rarest iteration of all and perhaps the best to drive if you like to exercise your classics over long distances.
This UK-supplied, matching numbers OTS looks fantastic following a full bare metal respray to its original colour in August 2024. It’s a original manual car in factory right-hand drive - the most coveted specification of all Series III E-Types. Purchased by the most recent owner in 2018, the Jaguar has formed part of their significant private collection ever since. Fastidious about the cars in their collection, he had JC Specialists maintain and service the E-Type throughout his tenure.
The car is offered with a substantial history file including over 400 photos of the bare metal respray, numerous invoices amounting to over £8,000, and a Jaguar Heritage Certificate.
This E-Type ticks all the right boxes. If you’ve been looking to add one to your garage, this is the car to buy.

“The paintwork is in excellent condition throughout as to are the interior and hood with no blemishes to note. The chromework is also in very good condition and retains a deep shine all round, including the gleaming wire wheels.”
The interior is superbly presented and appears to exhibit little in the way of wear. The vendor points out the desirable Moto Lita sports steering wheel and new convertible hood, complete with matching cover.
The Mechanics
- 5.3-litre V12
- SU carburettors
- Four-speed manual gearbox
- The vendor informs us that the E-Type drives very well indeed
- Regular maintenance by JC Specialists during the most recent ownership
It’s rare to find a factory manual Series III and it suits the character of the V12 very well. There’s ample torque to cruise all day in top gear while allowing the flexibility to explore the upper regions of the rev range in the twistier sections by dropping it down a couple of cogs.
Having been maintained to a very high standard, this Series III OTS is said to drive very well indeed.
