1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1

  • H-Code 351ci V8 engine with 3-speed automatic transmission
  • Valid Controle Technique until November 2027
  • Brand new tyres

The Appeal

First hitting the market in 1969, the Mustang Mach 1 was part of Ford’s continuing interests to push the limits of the iconic pony car. The Mustang had been launched to great fanfare in 1964, and as Chevrolet and Pontiac continued to pump out their muscle cars, the Mustang platform seemed the perfect fit to fight them off and capitalise on an existing reputation.
It was a huge success - the resultant car was so packed full of grunt that GT wasn’t sufficient to describe it. As a result, they called it the Mach 1.
This example, stocked with the ever-impressive 5.8L Cleveland V8, comes with plenty of period character - with a simply exceptional interior.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built in Ford’s Dearborn Factory in 1973
  • In current ownership since 2015
  • Current Controle Technique is valid until November 2027
  • The car currently indicates a mileage of 70,967 miles
  • While this can’t be verified, it does seem supported by the car’s overall condition
  • The car has always been kept in dry storage during the current ownership
The paperwork file includes:

  • Certificat d’immatriculation
  • Controle Technique record
  • The latest Controle Technique certificate

The Interior

  • Highly original - and highly presented - black vinyl interior
  • No known modifications save for new carpets
  • Highly presented instruments, all in good working order
  • Original radio unit is still in situ
  • Modern ‘Realistic’ high-spec speakers installed to the rear
  • Impressive Mustang-branded steering wheel
  • Nicely contrasting brightwork with a gentle patina
  • Impressive sports seats, free of rips and tears with a rich grain
  • Door cards are in excellent condition
  • Headlining and carpets in good order throughout
  • Protective Mustang-branded floor mats
  • Round the back, the boot is in excellent order with solid floors and a spare wheel
Impeccably preserved, this Mach 1’s interior is a simply excellent cabin - perhaps one of the finest we’ve seen. Fitted out in the Mustang’s quintessential black vinyl, the seats carry a beautiful grain and still look good and firm, ready and waiting for the next would-be petrolhead to sit in them.
The carpets, the dash and the door cards are all in excellent condition, with no signs of major wear across the board and a superb, nicely polished finish. There’s a gentle patina to the chromework and steering column, but these are barely noticeable.

The Exterior

  • Exceptional exterior styling with angular panels and scoops
  • The factory classification of this was the 05 VIN code - the ‘SportsRoof’ style
  • Panel fit is excellent with no dents or dings
  • Attractive two-tone paintwork in yellow and black
  • Some light wear around the car’s arches and doors
  • Glasswork and lenses in excellent order throughout
  • Branding is all clean and well-presented
  • The car is sitting atop Fenton Super Shark wheels, which are in good order
  • These are shod in a full set of Cooper Cobra tyres which are newly fitted
  • Underneath, the car shows light signs of wear - but is largely excellent with only very light surface corrosion
Mach 1 specific features, all factory spec including:

  • Colour-keyed plastic front ‘spoiler’ bumper, front fender and hood trim
  • Honeycomb grille with sports lamps
  • Matching honeycomb rear trunk panel
  • Mach 1 decals on fenders and trunk lid
  • Black lower body accents
  • Pop-open filler cap
The aesthetics of this Mach 1 speak for themselves. It’s a remarkable-looking car - aggressive, sporty and loaded with character. If the Mustang looked good, this looks utterly fantastic. Everything here is in good, solid order with only light age-commensurate wear - which does nothing to detract from its overall presentation.
With ample black plastic trims, plenty of branding, its unique honeycomb grilles and that sweeping profile, this is a car that lives and breathes speed at first glance - and we’ve no doubt it’ll turn plenty of heads on the road.
