Previously restored and subsequently dry-stored for around twenty years
MOT valid until November 2025 (although exempt)
A great candidate to use and improve
The Appeal
It's Herbie!
Yes, that number 53 and racing stripe will surely coax a smile and friendly wave from every onlooker. The filmmakers of 'The Love Bug' had considered a Volvo for the role, but it's a good job they saw how much the Beetle was loved the world over—especially by the burgeoning 'Hippie' movement at the time.
Having been previously restored and subsequently stored for around twenty years, this 1971 Volkswagen Beetle has now been recommissioned for the road, passing a recent MOT test with flying colours. As the photographs show, there's scope to improve the car in a few areas, but it would make a superb winter project to use and improve as you go.
The History and Paperwork
UK market RHD example
38,808 miles indicated (unwarranted)
MOT valid until November 2025
The MOT had just one advisory to indicate that the underside has been undersealed
Previously restored and been in storage for around 20 years
Brought out and with very little work needed to pass MOT
The Condition
We're assured that this is a good, solid car that just requires further work to the bodywork, especially both doors
The underside and inner wings, and sills are all said to be in sound order
Straight bodywork in fair condition for its age
Older restoration now showing signs that paintwork is required; however, it’s not essential
Apart from a very small tear in the passenger seat, the vendor states the interior is in superb order
The rear seats and door cards look "as new"
Radio cassette fitted and in working order working with Pioneer speakers
The dashboard is in very good condition, as is the speedometer, which is working
The glove box is clean and the catch is reportedly working as it should
original Bilstein Jack present
Driver's window only winds down halfway
There’s a ding in the back bumper and corrosion to both bumpers
The Mechanics
1.2-litre air-cooled flat-four
Four-speed manual gearbox
Car starts and drives but has been unused for twenty years, so it will need some further servicing/attention
Old petrol has been drained and fresh fuel added
It’s a usable ongoing project that would suit the DIY/weekend project
Reportedly drives well but needs to be tuned up
New tyres fitted for MOT
