The Appeal
In the late 1960s, Volkswagen needed a new top-of-the-range sports car to replace the Karmann Ghia, while Porsche was looking to replace the entry-level 912. So it made sense for the two marques to collaborate, and the result was the mid-engined 914.
Three four-cylinder variants were offered, but Porsche also FIA homologated a 911T-powered 914 for Group 4 racing in 1970. These 914/6s are the rarest and best-loved of all 914s.
This 1970 example has benefited from meticulous maintenance and recent work. The 2120cc flat-six engine has been refurbished by Porsche to 180bhp, while the bodywork, interior and upholstery have all undergone some form of restoration. The car has also been sensibly modified in preparation for regularity rallies with period bucket seats and wide wings reminiscent of factory competition cars.
The car has been stored in a closed garage under a cover, preserving its condition on loan for its next owner. We are assured that it is very pleasant to drive.

The bodywork and paintwork have recently been professionally restored, as have all the plastics and carpets. There's also a safety cage fitted - ideal for more demanding long-distance events or even possible track work.
The Mechanics
2120cc flat-six
Five-speed manual gearbox
Engine rebuilt and prepared at Porsche (180 bhp)
With such a short wheelbase and a mid-mounted 911 transmission, the 914/6 proved to be an extremely capable sports car. This example houses a rebuilt engine from Porsche, tuned to 180bhp, so there's plenty of performance available to make such a small car go very fast.
We are told that it drives very well, and is ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.
