The Appeal
Arguably the most stylish and well-built roadster of all time, the Mercedes-Benz W113 SL has rightly been venerated ever since the first finished cars rolled off the Stuttgart production line. If you’re looking for an open-topped car for long-distance grand touring, a ‘Pagoda’ is an excellent choice.
This 1969 280 SL is a rare UK-supplied example. It’s had just five former keepers and we’re informed the indicated mileage, just 74,500, is supported by the extensive history file. The vendor informs us that the invoices date all the way back to 1978, while old MOT certificates span back to 1980. Such impressive provenance seldom accompanies a car of this age, making this SL a prime candidate to join a prestigious collection.
It presents beautifully throughout, and thanks to an engine rebuild just 7,500 miles ago in 2016, we’re informed that it is beautiful to drive. The vendor has submitted the SL for MOT testing for peace of mind, and this resulted in an advisory-free pass in July 2024.

This Mercedes-Benz presents beautifully throughout and there are remarkably few visible imperfections. This car clearly has solid underpinnings and straight bodywork, while the paint and chrome finishes are immensely smart with only the smallest of blemishes to be seen. Inside, the cabin remains commendably original and free from heavy wear. We understand all the original controls, instruments and electrics to be in good working order.

The recent MOT test was passed with no advisories and we’re informed that this SL is ready to be enjoyed.
