The Attractions

The Italian 'spiaggine' of the 1960s, small open-top cars designed ideally for reaching the fashionable beaches, are currently among the most coveted and sought-after cars in the classic car world.

Although the Ferves Ranger was designed by Carlo Ferrari as a small, simple off-roader intended for use by farmers and forest rangers, its deliciously attractive lines and fully open body make it particularly appealing to beach car enthusiasts, perfect as a yacht tender or for frolicking in fashionable summer resorts, and have led to its soaring prices in recent years, so much so that a very similar example to this one sold at auction in 2019 for an impressive $196,000.
Produced by Ferrari Veicoli Speciali from 1966 to 1971 in Turin, Italy, the Ranger used a sturdy rectangular-section steel section frame and a sheet-steel body, while mechanics and components were of Fiat origin.

The engine and steering came from the Fiat 500F, suspension and brakes from the Fiat 600D and the front axle shafts from the Autobianchi Primula.
Its small footprint, lightness and simplicity allowed the Ranger to traverse the narrowest paths, carrying relatively heavy loads, making it a valuable work vehicle in less accessible areas. For this reason, only very few of the 600 or so examples built are still on the road.
The Ranger we present is an extremely rare 4x4 version, with switchable four-wheel drive and locking rear differential.
Efficient and maintained with great care, it retains its original colour and original factory interior trim.

Registered with the Italian Registro Italiano Veicoli Storici and the Haflinger historical club (ANES) and currently being registered with the FIAT register, this Ranger represents an unmissable opportunity to secure one of the rarest and most versatile small Italian discoveries of the 1960s.

The bodywork of this example, particularly attractive in the vibrant original yellow colouring, is in remarkably good condition, with no defects to be noted and no signs of corrosion. The underbody appears equally well maintained, with mechanics in excellent condition and clean, solid surfaces.

The passenger compartment, still fitted with the original upholstery, is rather spartan: the rear seat is a sturdy upright bench that can be easily folded down and used to transport even very heavy objects, while the rubber-covered floor and the extreme rationality of the overall design make cleaning and maintenance extremely easy.

This car is equipped with the optional folding and removable soft top as well as the characteristic removable doors.
