The Appeal
What's the best "driver's car"? We get asked that question a lot - and while there are several worthy candidates - you can't go wrong with a 105-Series Alfa Romeo.
These cars are proof that you don't need much power to have fun. A four-cylinder twin-cam in a small, light, rear-wheel-drive coupé is enough to delight drivers of any skill level.
For Alfisti, this GT Junior offers a particularly enticing opportunity. Corrosion-free originals are a rare find, but that's exactly what this 1969 example is. The vendor assures us that it has never needed any remedial repair and we're further informed that the 44,000 indicated miles are accurate.
The story goes that the car remained with its first registered keeper in Johannesburg they died in 1999. As it happened, the car was undergoing a service at the time, so the proprietor of the garage, a Mr Gilberto Tores (of GT Motors) acquired the car. As it transpires, he had been the factory manager of the Alfa South African factory until it closed in 1986! He equipped the car with a larger engine - a period-correct 2.0-litre of the same Nord twin-cam - and he would keep the car for the next decade.
The vendor acquired the Alfa in 2018 and carried out a comprehensive refresh, bringing it up tot he high standard you see today.
Original 'Step-nose' or 'Scalino' GT Juniors are exceedingly desirable and it's rare to find an example in as good condition with such amazing provenance.
