  • Rare pre-Corniche convertible by Mulliner Park Ward: 1 of only 506 made
  • Desirable early “Chippendale” dashboard
  • As featured on the celebrity antiques road trip and several other TV series
  • In current ownership for the past ten years
  • MOT until 4th of September 2025 with no advisories
  • Runs and drives very smoothly

The Appeal

Before it earned the Corniche moniker, Rolls-Royce’s convertible Silver Shadow was simply marketed as the “Drophead Coupé”. Just 506 of these early cars were built and they’re greatly coveted by collectors.
Here we have a splendid example from 1968. It’s been in present ownership for a decade and the vendor has taken great care of it. The car retains its original factory colour scheme; the bodywork has been superbly restored while the seats have been reupholstered to an exemplary standard. The Rolls continues to present well, the electric folding roof operates well and the car is said to drive beautifully.
The car sits on a fresh set of tyres and is complete with a year’s advisory-free MOT in readiness for its next custodian.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered on 18th of November 1968
  • Just five former registered keepers
  • In current ownership for ten years
  • Featured on the celebrity antiques road trip and several other TV series
  • Please note that the registration ‘RCW 71’ does not accompany the car but is available by separate negotiation
  • 135,696 miles warranted by the extensive history file
  • MOT until 4th of September 2025
  • V5C present
  • Collection of old MOT certificates, invoices from well-regarded specialists and several photographs

The Condition

  • Caribbean Blue over black leather upholstery
  • The exterior was fully restored and re-sprayed a couple of years ago to great cost - there is reportedly no corrosion whatsoever and the paint presents impeccably
  • Any corrosion was cut out and fresh steel was welded in
  • The fabric folding hood is serviceable but could do with reconditioning (as the photos show)
  • Electric folding soft top reportedly in good working order, but could require a new hood over time
  • Front copious chrome work is in brilliant order for its age
  • Complete with overriders
  • There is a dent to the back left quarter bumper which the vendor believes would repair quite easily
  • The original “Chippendale” dash presents in great condition with a light patina while the door cappings show their age somewhat in comparison
  • Retains its optional wool carpets
  • The leather seats have been reupholstered to an excellent standard
  • The electric windows are intermittent and don't always operate effectively
Resplendent in its factory colour scheme, this Rolls-Royce is a very elegant car - especially with the roof down.
Having undergone significant bodywork restoration and interior retrimming work, it presents beautifully throughout while retaining a charming age-commensurate patina to a few components. It’s exceedingly original and period-correct, even down to the finer details like the retention of the period radio, the auxiliary driving lamps and bumper overriders,

The Mechanics

  • 6.2-litre V8
  • Four-speed automatic gearbox
  • No MOT advisories
  • Reportedly in very good running and driving order
  • Judiciously serviced as the copious history file attests to
In this period, Rolls-Royce wasn’t interested in top-speed performance. To the engineers at Crewe, a good car would “waft” along serenely; a car that wouldn’t be unsettled by bumps of any jerky control inputs.
We’re assured that this Drophead Coupé drives beautifully, having been regularly maintained throughout current ownership. It sits on a fresh set of tyres and there are no MOT advisories to report.
