1967 Fiat 600 Multipla

Highlights

  • Restored around twenty years ago
  • Attractive two-tone paintwork
  • Beautifully presented period interior
  • Registered in Italy

The Appeal

One of the most desirable vehicles to ever carry the Fiat 600 name, the Multipla was a remarkably effective compact car that could carry six people in a footprint scarcely larger than the original car, simply by pulling the driver’s compartment forward. The result was a curvy little van that was every bit as charming as its classic Italian buildmates.
This example, restored some twenty years ago, has been cossetted in dry storage and as a result provides a glossy, aspirational example of the lesser-spotted but highly prized Minivan.

The History and Paperwork

  • Sadly we don’t know much about the history of this vehicle
  • First registered in 1967
  • Restored circa 2003
  • We’re informed that it’s been used only very lightly since
  • Reportedly this MPV has always stayed in a dry garage
  • Paperwork file includes Italian registration paperwork and a photocopied manual

The Interior

  • Excellent period interior
  • Tan vinyl upholstery with an attractive metal dashboard
  • Fully restored circa 20 years ago
With its compact proportions, it is fair to say there isn’t a ton of interior to talk about with this Multipla - but what there is looks utterly resplendent. With its gleaming paintwork and quintessentially 60s contrasting upholstery, the interior of this little van is hugely evocative.
The upholstery is in good order, spanning the bench seats with minimal wear and no rips or tears we can highlight, and a charming patina across the bolsters. The door cards are presented in similar condition, with only the slightest signs of sage.
All of the car’s instruments - and being fair, there aren’t many of them - look clean and easy to read, with only a gentle patina on the chromework. We haven’t been informed of any technical faults.
The floor mats present well, and the rear shelf looks in good order with some creasing to its cover.

The Exterior

  • Impressive mint and white paintwork
  • Fully restored some 20 years ago
  • Period-accurate disc wheels
The stylish, squat bodywork of this period van is fabulously endearing for any enthusiast. The car really does look the part, with beautiful two-tone paintwork and polished chrome creating a real headturner.
The bodywork looks to be in fine fettle, with no dents or dings, nor signs of corrosion. The paintwork shows some light signs of wear, with cracking around the front passenger-side door being particularly noticeable, but is otherwise in fine fettle. The chrome is still shining nicely and makes for a bright contrast. The glasswork and lenses are similarly fine, with no chips or fractures.
The car is sitting on period-accurate Fiat-branded wheels, which are beginning to show their age and carry the odd dent, ding or scuff. The car’s tyres look in good order, and seem to have plenty of tread.
Underneath, the car is remarkably clean for a vehicle of its vintage, boasting only minor signs of wear and no corrosion we can discern.

The Mechanics

  • Fitted with Fiat’s Tipo 100 I4 767cc engine
  • 4-speed manual transmission
  • No known major mechanical modifications
Fully rebuilt during the restoration, we’re informed that the car’s diminutive little Tipo 100 is still running well, with no issues being started. We don’t have any reports of leaks, bangs, knocks or smoke, and from what the vendor informs us, appears to be in fine fettle throughout.
The classic chatter of the Tipo 100 is still a highly endearing sound, and while it won’t break any speed records, is sure to make an impression upon the lucky buyer.

Summary

Stylish, relatively scarce and beautifully styled, we can’t see a reason any collector of 60s classics would avoid this smashing little van.
