  • Factory 4.2L car with fully synchromesh manual box
  • In process of being road registered in the UK

The Appeal

North American demand for the E-Type made a 2+2 version inevitable. These cars added small rear seats and a higher roofline to address some of the usability and access issues with the compact original. It was a package that worked so well that the 2+2 chassis outlived all other E-Type versions.
Those qualities make the 2+2 popular with modern buyers who want to really use and enjoy their sleek cars. The Series 1 2+2 is particularly appealing because it retains the original, closed-in headlights and small rear light aesthetics of the original car.
Just 2,644 Series 1 2+2 LHD E-Types were built before the upgrades, which were retrospectively and unofficially known as ‘Series 1.5’ cars. Most were fitted with the automatic gearbox, which makes this 1966 USA car very rare.
Finished in Signal Red with a tan leather interior, it appears to have been extensively restored before arriving on these shores. The condition is impressive inside and out, giving the first UK registered keeper a great example of these enduring classics.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in 1966 according to chassis date
  • One of 2,644 Series 1 2+2 LHD cars before the Series 1.5 revisions were introduced
  • Appears to have been originally supplied to USA
  • Recently imported to the UK and in process of being UK registered
  • Formerly part of a large static collection
  • Vendor advises chassis number below which is not visible in photos
  • Chassis number 1E76496 confirms this car as a 4.2L Series 1 1966-built manual model

The Condition

  • Appears to be a restored example finished in Signal Red
  • Paintwork presents well with consistent colour across panels and bright finish
  • Bodywork in good order with arches, sills and rear tub presenting well
  • Chromework and glasswork are well-kept, including front and rear bumpers
  • Lights are well kept with correct front and rear Series 1 lamps and lenses fitted
  • Chrome wire wheels show some tarnish and would benefit from improvement to match the rest of the car
  • Tan leather interior appears to have been retrimmed and features an unusual tan dashboard
  • Leather front and rear seats in very good order with few signs of use
  • Remaining interior fittings are well kept with some aging, as shown in photos
  • Car retains the correct Series 1 features, like toggle switches and three-spoke wooden wheel
  • Brown carpets in good order through cabin and boot area with light use visible

The Mechanics

  • Jaguar XK 4.2L straight six engine
  • Triple SU carburettors are factory-correct
  • 4spd fully synchromesh manual gearbox
  • Suspension and running gear appear to have been refreshed
  • Not yet tested extensively since arriving in the UK
  • Owing to the car having formed part of a largely static collection, it saw little use and thus will require a level of recommissioning prior to road use
