The most
Perhaps the most exquisite of all Alfa Romeo Tipo 101s, the Giulia Sprint Speciale (SS) was the latest iteration of Franco Scaglione's aerodynamic homologation models, first unveiled as a Giulietta at Monza in 1957. As with the other Tipo 101 models, the 1,300 cm³ Giulietta SS gave way to the 1,600 cm³ Giulia SS in 1963, increasing power to 110 bhp. Thanks to a drag coefficient of 0.28 and an unladen weight of less than one thousand kilos, the Giulia Sprint Speciale reached a top speed of 204 km/h.
Apart from its performance, this is one of the most beautiful cars ever produced in Italy, and by Alfa Romeo. This is one of the last examples ever built of this model. As the photographs show, this is a superb example that has benefited from much care over the years and the vendor notes that it is ready to be driven as regularly and as far as you wish.
Seller comments:
" Everything works perfectly, the gearbox has just been overhauled, the clutch is completely new, the engine starts immediately with the ideal oil pressure of 4.5 kg from 2500 rpm when hot, the water temperature never exceeds 85°C even in very hot weather. The last service was less than 1,000 km ago; all the oil changes, filters, lubrication, spark plugs and brake oil have been replaced.
For Alfa Romeo enthusiasts, this is one of the most sought-after cars in the Milanese firm's catalogue. Don't miss this excellent opportunity to add this jewel of a car to your collection.

It was more than two decades before anyone built a more aerodynamic road car than the Giulietta/Giulia SS. Bertone's flowing lines are as functional as they are beautiful, ensuring that this Alfa makes the most efficient use of its relatively modest powertrain.
The white really brings out those voluptuous curves; this car is almost devoid of straight lines! And as you can see from the photographs, it's a beautiful example inside and out. There are some very minor paint imperfections, including a few bubbles and chips (visible in the photos), but certainly nothing that detracts from the overall magnificence of this car. The body and underbody appear to be in very good condition and we note that the doors, bonnet and boot lid appear to fit well. There are a few imperfections on the chrome, but again, nothing particularly noteworthy.
The interior is as striking as the exterior, with an equally elegant design, punctuated in this case by leather seats, dashboard and door panel cladding in a lovely shade of blue, which is in turn offset by grey carpets. There appears to be very little wear to report, and the seller notes the subtle addition of a modern FM radio with integrated speakers.
The engine
1.6-litre DOHC Nord four-cylinder engine
Five-speed manual gearbox
Very original and well presented engine compartment
Recent full service and transmission overhaul within the last 1,000 km
Ready to drive
Although most Alfa Romeo enthusiasts have probably never had the privilege of driving a Giulia SS, it's likely that we're all familiar with the excellent Tipo 101/Tipo 105 powertrain, featuring Giuseppe Busso's high-revving Nord double overhead cam engine. It really is one of the greatest engines of all time - not just in the four-cylinder class.
As the Giulia SS, it's the more powerful 1,600cc version, coupled to the five-speed manual gearbox used in all SS models and later a feature of the entire Alfa range. As a former car specialist, the seller carries out his own maintenance.
Recent work included:
All oil and filter changes
New spark plugs
New brake fluid
Gearbox overhaul
New clutch
The Alfa is renowned for driving beautifully, seemingly ready for everyday use or to undertake a long-distance journey. Spring and summer are just around the corner, so now is the time to buy this car, one of the rarest, most beautiful and fabulous to drive of all classic Alfa Romeos.
