One of the last examples with classic 'upwind' doors
The Appeal
Post-war Italy faced several challenges: mobilising its large rural workforce and maximising the use of strategic materials such as steel, which was in short supply. The 'New' Fiat 500 was the answer to both those problems. A brilliant design produced a practical four-seater car that was small enough to be robust enough to cope with rough terrain.
The 500D produced from 1960 to 1965 was the last of the classic and much-loved models with 'upwind' doors with rear hinges. This feature, coupled with the adoption of the larger and more powerful 499 cc engine, made these intermediate period vehicles particularly sought after by enthusiasts.
This is a stunning example of this model, carefully restored seven years ago and finished in an eye-catching dark grey metallic with a cream vinyl interior. To complete the impeccable appearance, it is fitted with rare alloy wheels that give it a more purposeful look. As beautiful as it is solid and pleasing, it is a particularly attractive example of a much-loved classic.
