The Appeal

In right-hand drive variant, the Tipo 101 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider is already a thoroughly rare car with just 404 examples leaving the factory. But this car was later modified to meet Veloce specification, something that was never offered from the factory in right-hand drive. 

Believed to be one of just a handful of models like it, this car sits above the rest having been extensively restored around 2010. As a result, it presents in a stunning condition both inside and out whilst retaining its original colour combination of white paint and Black Skai interior trim. 

A true work of art on wheels, this car in particular is said to grab attention anywhere it goes whilst the vendor informs us that it is a joy to drive.

The Interior

Today, nearly 60 years after leaving the Alfa Romeo factory, this stunning car still presents with its original interior specification dubbed Black Skai by the manufacturer. Indeed, it has been through a thorough restoration bringing it back to this glorious condition. 

The interior specification includes the black leather seats along with a matching black carpet trim. The white, body colour dashboard contrasts the rest of the interior which is capped off by the black leather dash top which presents few signs of wear. The dashboard contrasting is carried forth to the door cards which also feature the elegant black leather and white paint blend.

A drop top, the black cabin helps focus the driver on the road ahead with the roof up. Though remove the soft top and one is wonderfully exposed to the elements akin a Le Mans racer from the era. 

Seemingly the original Blaupunkt stereo is still present and in great condition as are the rest of the controls throughout the cabin. Indeed, even the pedals, and shiny black steering wheel and gear knob present wonderfully.




The Exterior

When the Tipo 101 Alfa Romeo became the Giulia, it gained a larger 1600cc engine requiring a slight redesign of the bonnet. The additional air vent and resulting angular design makes for a much sportier looking car, something certainly adored by many. Indeed, anyone claiming that this car is not a simply gorgeous example of what an automobile can be would be lying.

This model, first leaving the factory in 1964 is finished in white paint, the same colour with which it left said factory. As one can see from the many restoration photos, this car received a full respray around 2010, explaining the paintwork’s stunning condition. Not only that, but the chrome fixtures throughout including the bumpers, grilles and window surrounds all shine beautifully.

Capping off the car’s exterior specification is the black fabric roof which, much like the interior, makes for a brilliantly contrasted design. That being said, the car is just as stunning with the roof down as up.

All four wheels look great on the car and it appears there is plenty of tread on the tyres. Though one can spot the odd small scuff mark. Finally, the underside looks particularly clean with the chassis clearly receiving protection in recent times.




The Mechanics

As aforementioned, the introduction of the Giulia name to the Tipo 101 meant the arrival of a larger 1.6-litre inline-four. Indeed, that is what powers this model. Although, it does not come in its original specification as the car was reportedly converted to Giulia Veloce settings at some point in its life.

As a result, uprated sump, oil pick-up as well as twin Weber carburettors feature on this car, boosting power from 79hp to 113hp. Furthermore, to accommodate the engine and fit the steering column, the powerplant sits at a slight angle compared to standard Giulia models. Officially, no right-hand drive Veloce models were ever manufactured. So whilst not original, this is surely a very desirable car.

In fantastic condition, it is clear that this car has been well cared for in recent years and that is evident in the experience it provides. The vendor mentions that it is a joy to drive and we do not doubt that given the vigorous engine and manual gearbox.




Summary

As one of just 404 right-hand drive 1600 Giulia Spiders ever built, this is an extremely rare opportunity. Even more so thanks to the upgrades this car has received to meet Veloce specification. As a result, it is described as a joy to drive. Furthermore, a full restoration just over a decade ago means this car presents in a stunning condition which reportedly turns heads wherever you go with it.
