1963 Lancia Flaminia GTL Touring 3C

Highlights

  • A rare GTL 2+2 '3C' with 2.5-litre engine
  • ASI Gold certification
  • Original red leather interior
  • Mechanics in need of some restoration work
  • Well-kept Superleggera aluminium bodywork

The Appeal

The Flaminia was a triumph of design and technology. Understandably, Carrozzeria Touring decided to create a high-end custom-built car using its excellent mechanics.

The beautiful aluminium body concealed a lightweight 'super-light' architecture. In 1962 came a 2+2 with a longer wheelbase, simply called GTL. Only 300 were built, almost all with the 2.8-litre 146 hp engine.

This is one of the very rare models with a 2.5-litre engine. It is even rarer because it is a '3C' version with three carburettors and 140 hp. The ASI Gold certification confirms the original model and features.

The car is complete, including the engine, and has undergone some recent work, including a clutch and new exhausts. The bodywork is well maintained and the interior is original and attractive, but the car will need some mechanical work, including an engine restoration due to little use.

This is a rare opportunity to restore a magnificent sports car.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registration in 1963
  • Registration documents showing first Italian registration in November 1995
  • Documents in the name of the current owner
  • Of the 300 GTLs built, 297 were fitted with the 2.8-litre engine
  • Old overhaul stamps visible on the logbook
  • Currently without valid overhaul as it is partially disassembled
  • ASI Gold certification verifying its characteristics

The Condition

  • Aluminium bodywork with metallic grey paintwork
  • Well-maintained bodywork without visible damage
  • The seller informs us that the car has never been involved in an accident
  • The paintwork is generally well preserved but shows localised scratches and marks
  • These defects can be easily observed in the photographs
  • Unmodified car in original condition with steel wheels with chrome wheel covers
  • Matching spare wheel
  • Complete and apparently intact windows, chrome and headlights
  • Some restoration of trim and exterior surfaces may be necessary
  • Red leather interior described to us as original and unrestored
  • Interior is complete and shows slight patina on surfaces
  • Controls and instrumentation in good condition, original and unrestored
  • Three-spoke steering wheel with wooden crown
The GTL is the work of one of the most famous Italian coachbuilders in its golden age.

Its unmistakable lines are rich in fascinating details and enriched by the skilful use of chrome. Its lines stand out best in the metallic grey of this car.

The aluminium bodywork is well maintained, naturally free of visible corrosion, and there are only light marks on the paintwork. The exterior trim appears to be complete and free of damage.

The 2+2 cabin of this car is upholstered in elegant burgundy leather. We have been informed that it is highly original, as evidenced by the light patina on the seats and other surfaces.

The Mechanics

  • Particularly desirable model with 140 hp '3C' triple-carburettor engine
  • An extremely small number of GTLs were built with a 2,458 cc engine like this one
  • Specifications confirmed by ASI certification
  • 4-speed manual gearbox
  • New exhausts
  • New clutch
  • Engine has been removed and is in need of restoration
Most of the 300 GTLs built were equipped with the 2.8-litre engine. This is one of the very rare examples with a 2.5-litre engine, in the '3C' configuration with triple carburettor and 140 hp. These details are confirmed by the ASI certification. The car has been stationary for some years and the engine will have to be restored. It was removed from the engine compartment as shown in the photographs. Some work has been carried out, including a new exhaust system and a new clutch.
