1962 Daimler SP250 ‘Dart’ B Spec

Highlights

  • Superb combination of ivory and burgundy colours
  • Very original, unmodified B Spec car
  • Brand new Turner V8 engine
  • Good historical record
  • Fully functional with no reported problems

The Plus

Nobody really expected Daimler to produce one of the most unusual and successful sports cars of the 1960s. Best known for its majestic saloons, the firm decided in the late 1950s to enter the burgeoning two-seater market.

The SP250 was quite unique on the market. There was the appearance - which could be described as 'distinctive' - and the advanced, lightweight fibreglass construction. Finally, there was the engine - one of the best in British motoring, the 2.5-litre 'Turner' V8.

Minor problems and this appearance have held back sales, but these details are of no interest to discerning buyers. They are enjoying one of the most unusual cars of the era, quite different from the more common MG, Triumph and Austin Healey models.

With only 2,654 built, good examples are rare. Here is one, a highly original 1962 version that benefits from Jaguar-designed 'B Spec' upgrades to improve rigidity. Finished in original ivory with a matching burgundy leather interior, this example is in good condition and ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.

  • Early B Spec car with reinforced chassis and adjustable steering column

Condition

  • Elegant ivory paintwork in good condition, appearing to be an early restoration
  • Buyers should anticipate some ageing from use, as on the boot lid
  • Fibreglass appears to be in good condition with a solid, uncracked finish
  • Car looks as it left the factory inside and out, including badges, bumpers and hubcaps
  • Black roof in very good condition with deep colour finish and clear screens
  • Attractive burgundy leather interior with matching dashboard
  • Interior fittings well maintained with only a slight patina to be noted on photos
  • Some signs of wear on controls typical of age and originality
  • Beige carpets with red borders, all finished to a high standard and in good condition
  • Original dials set in aluminium trim, all shown to work correctly
