The Appeal

Capable of reaching a top speed of 100 miles per hour, quite high for the time, the streamlined Austin 100 roadster, the first of the "Big Healeys" produced from 1953, was very successful thanks to its its pleasant and innovative design, its fun and responsive driving and its excellent performance, which made it popular among sports car enthusiasts all over the world and especially in the United States.

Successful on the tracks as well as on the roads, the 100 was updated over the years, with a new 4-speed gearbox and more powerful engines and in 1956 the 6-cylinder engined 100-6 was introduced.

In 1959, the 100-6 was replaced by the new Austin Healey 3000, which adopted its mechanics and engine, with increased displacement and two 2 SU carburettors, with more power and torque.

Equipped with front disc brakes and a more robust gearbox, the 3000 was available in the 2+2 BT7 and two-seater BN7 versions.

Very successful in competitions, the Austin Healey 3000 was improved in 1961, with the introduction of the MkII version, with a better gearbox and three SU carburettors which brought the power up to 132hp.

Iconic, powerful and desirable, the coveted MarkII achieved excellent results in rallies all over the world and remained in production for just one year, being replaced by the MKIIA/BJ7 version, which once again was fitted with only two carburettors.

Distinguished by the peculiar large grille with vertical slats and the "Austin Healey 3000 MKII" badge on the bonnet, this 1962 Healey 3000 BT7 is one of the rare models equipped with three carburettors.

The seller informs us that the engine was thoroughly restored like all the mechanics between 2006 and 2007 and that it is still in very good working order and that the fascinating two-tone bodywork was restored in the same period and is rust-free and in nice shape.

The charming interior is well preserved, with intact surfaces, good upholstery and a pleasant and efficient dashboard.

As a tribute to the glorious sporting history of this model, the car is characterized by a racing-inspired aesthetic and equipped with valuable racing accessories, including a Moto-Lita sports steering wheel, fire extinguisher, Hella driving lights and larger wheels and tyres.

The engine has received attention to improve its efficiency and reliability and is equipped with an alternator, electronic ignition, double fuel pump and double cooling fan.

Originally sold in the United States and imported into Italy in 2007, immediately after the restoration, this 3000 MkII is registered with the ASI (Italian Historic automotoclub) and comes with updated Italian registration documents and a Certificate of Historical and Collectible Relevance.

Rare, beautiful and fast, this Austin Healey, equipped with a pleasant bodywork, a sporty and well-preserved interior and a powerful engine, represents an important opportunity to acquire a quality example of a model that has always been loved and coveted by all enthusiasts, of great historical importance and always at the center of attention at exhibitions and gatherings.
