A sublime Chevrolet Apache Pickup in fully restored and upgraded condition Restored between 2012 and 2015 by Pettit Racing in West Palm Beach, Florida Has only covered 6,000 miles since this complete and thorough restoration
The Appeal
The Apache was Chevrolet's light pickup truck and part of the extensive Task Force series produced between 1955 and 1959. The Task Force series was the long-awaited successor to the Advanced Design series which went into production immediately after the Second World War. This 1959 example is an Apache 32, which designates it as a ½ tonne payload truck with a long bed (8 feet).
This example is as beautiful as it is remarkable. Restored regardless of cost by the renowned specialists at Pettit Racing in Florida, it presents a sublime condition. With only 6,000 miles since restoration, it seems hard to find fault with this 1959 Chevrolet and undoubtedly offers a unique ownership proposition.
The History and Paperwork
Built in 1959 and representing the ½ tonne payload truck in the Task Force range. The truck's painstaking and diligent restoration took place between 2012 and 2015. This was carried out by Pettit Racing in Florida, without concern for cost. The truck was fitted with a 'big block' 454 (7.4L) V8 from Chevy at this stage. The Chevrolet was exported to the UK by its current owner in 2017. At this stage the owner became the first UK keeper.
The truck was registered in the UK at this time with registration number 125 UXU. The Apache was taken to France in 2020. It is currently stored in an air-conditioned warehouse in Ales, France. The truck can easily be transported back to the UK by a carrier. UK registration facilitates the transfer of ownership to a British buyer. This classifies the truck as a historic vehicle. As such, it is considered MOT free and not subject to VED in the UK.
The Condition
The Apache looks stunning in its light silver metallic livery. Black body accents and a heavily chromed nose further enhance the truck's look. Mirror-chromed eight-spoke alloy wheels complete the truck's sensational look. The cab is sumptuously appointed and exquisitely finished. The interior combines period charm with a complete restoration.
Today, this remarkable pick-up is an impressive vehicle. Its size, combined with its fully restored condition, gives it a road presence that few cars can match. The light silver metallic livery looks immaculate throughout. The many chrome ornaments are bright, clear and very shiny. Excellent details such as the dark-accented rear bed trim and the two large straight exhaust pipes are perfectly aligned with tradition and modernity.
The paintwork has clearly been expertly applied and exudes a deep lustrous shine. The bodywork looks equally impressive, with no dents, dings or corrosion. The mirror-effect chrome alloy wheels are a real highlight. These 20-inch, eight-spoke Moto Metal wheels feature a deep, polished contour and large hub caps. A set of Kumho off-road tyres is fitted in 255/50 configuration. The cab glass and light lenses appear to be original and in excellent condition.
The surprisingly spacious cab seems to live up to the exterior. The well upholstered full width bench is covered in a soft looking red and grey leather. A large central armrest is fitted and contains a pair of obligatory cup holders. Matching carpets in red are fitted and the door panels are painted steel but feature period faux wood veneer panels in the same centre.
The dashboard has shaped steel panels, the top section is painted deep red and the shelf panel is finished in body coloured silver. A charming, and huge, V-shaped speedometer is fitted and is complete with integrated gauges for temperature, amps, oil temperature and fuel level. This sits behind a three-spoke alloy steering wheel with wooden hoop. This is a Momo quality item.
The spacious payload is accessed via a hinged tailgate adorned with the Chevrolet logo. The bed itself is finished in a hard-wearing dark wood and trimmed with alloy protective strips.
The powertrain The Chevrolet is now equipped with the 'big block' 454 (7.4L) V8. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission. This transmission is operated via a column-mounted shift lever.
This Chevrolet has a mechanical specification to match its appearance thanks to the attentions of Pettit Racing in West Palm Beach, Florida. This includes the installation of Chevy's classic 454 'big block' V8 engine. Despite the engine's 7.4-litre capacity, it looks positively tiny in the Apache's ample engine bay. Many new-look, high-spec components are noted here, such as the Edelbrock Performance intake manifold and top-mounted free-flow air filter. The interior engine compartment panels look immaculate, with checkered sheet metal used for protection.
The underside of the truck also looks well finished and presented. Many new-looking components are visible here too, including the free-flowing stainless steel exhausts. No corrosion, leaks or deformation are noted.
Summary
What a unique and incredible example of the revered Chevrolet Apache. Thanks to its provenance from Pettit Racing, it features a very high quality restoration. This restoration has touched every facet of the Apache, with the exterior, interior and mechanicals benefiting significantly. If you like your American trucks, this one blends the modified with the traditional to great effect. It's sure to get noticed and spark conversation, and certainly offers a truly unique ownership proposition.
