The Appeal
Alvis forged a reputation producing cars of the highest quality, characterised by elegance and understatement. The sporting TD21 was introduced in 1958 and featured coachbuilt bodywork by Park Ward. Built in relatively low numbers, good examples of the TD21 are seldom offered for sale, especially the highly coveted Drophead Coupé variant.
We’re delighted to offer one such example, originally sold in the UK and now residing in France. It’s presented in fantastic overall condition and accompanied by a substantial paperwork file that details a history of judicious maintenance. Regularly serviced and driven and reportedly working well, this charming Alvis is ready to be enjoyed.
The History and Paperwork
- UK supplied right-hand drive example
- In present ownership for the past seven years
- Regular maintenance carried out over the past five years, which is depicted in a series of invoices
- Older invoices detail servicing and parts procurement from the car’s time in the UK
- Subject to a restoration during the late 1980s
- Used in a driver’s parade at the 1994 British Grand Prix, chauffeuring Rubens Barichello and Eddie Irvine
- Exempt from French technical inspection due to its age
- Road registered in France with all associated paperwork in order including an F.F.V.E certificate
- 25,282 miles indicated, although we’re unable to verify the true figure
The Condition
- Resplendent in white, with a red soft top that matches the interior
- Very well presented inside, out and underneath
- No signs of excessive corrosion or any damage
- Very few blemishes to the paintwork which we understand to have been recently refinished
- All the chromework looks to be in fine order
- The interior is only lightly worn despite much of the upholstery being original
- New carpets fitted
- Fabulous veneered dashboard
- Complete with period-correct jack and a club hammer to tighten/loosen the wheel spinners
- Full-size spare wheel complete with cover
The Mechanics
- 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine
- Four-speed manual gearbox
- Driven regularly and service often to ensure this remains a reliable example
- Starter motor and gearbox changed in present ownership
- The oil pressure gauge and currently not working, although the vendor believes this to be a simple fix
- We’re assured that it drives very well indeed, with no apparent issues to report
