1958 Jaguar XK150 FHC

Vendor supplied images

Highlights

  • Extensively restored car barely used since
  • Mechnical upgrades make it ideal for touring
  • Rebuilt engine and 5spd manual gearbox
  • Great condition and ready to use

The Appeal

Enthusiasts have a soft spot for Jaguar’s XK150 Fixed Head Coupe. Beyond the beauty, these cars are practical and usable classics perfectly suited for classic events and touring, particularly when fitted with choice upgrades.
This extensively restored 1958 XK150 FHC seems tailor-made for that sort of use. Enhancements like a 5spd box improve its long-legged capabilities while a rebuilt engine, alloy radiator, electric fan, high torque starter and new fuel tank contribute to better reliability.
The work was clearly done to a high standard, including finishing in black over tan and converting to RHD. It has hardly been used since due to the death of the registered keeper. That means it comes to the buyer with the benefit of all that work and simply ready to enjoy.

The History and Paperwork

  • Factory built on 3rd October 1958
  • Chassis records confirm this car was a LHD FHC built in late 1958 with overdrive gearbox
  • The car also left the factory as a ‘Special Equipment’ with fittings such as wire wheels
  • Delivered to Jaguar Cars in New York, USA
  • Originally painted cream with dark blue interior
  • Registered on central XK Data database
  • First UK registered on 1st January 2021
  • One registered keeper since arriving in the UK
  • Comprehensive recent restoration to a high standard
  • Vendor reports that the car has barely been used since
  • Has been unused for 12 months so may require some light recommissioning
  • For sale due to deceased keeper
  • Showing 2 miles which may indicate the speedometer was zero’d when car rebuilt

The Condition

  • Restored car finished to a high standard in black with very good paintwork
  • Reported by seller to have a ‘good chassis’ reportedly without corrosion
  • Bodywork in very good order with tidy panel fit particularly across doors
  • Front and rear bumpers have had over riders removed
  • Chromework in good order with bright finish and no visible tarnish
  • Tan leather interior retrimmed to high standard with no obvious signs of wear
  • Carpets in good order and professionally retrimmed but may require some refitting
  • Four spoke wood-rimmed wheel
  • Chrome wire wheels with vintage specification Vredestein tyres fitted
  • Dashboard in very good order with leather trimmed features and clear dials
  • We are told the seats structures are original
  • Retrimmed door panels replicate factory specification
  • Blaupunkt modern stereo fitted but interior otherwise standard
  • Monza fuel cap fitted

The Mechanics

  • Rebuilt 3.4litre XK engine with twin SU carburettors
  • Converted to desirable 5spd manual gearbox for high speed touring
  • The engine number recorded by the DVLA appears to differ from factory one
  • Upgraded for classic car touring and road trips
  • Little used since restoration completed
  • May therefore require some light recommissioning prior to use
Upgrades recently fitted during restoration:
  • New wiring loom
  • Alloy radiator
  • Electric cooling fan
  • High torque starter
  • Four pot alloy brakes
  • New alloy fuel tank
  • Stainless steel exhaust
