The Appeal

Arriving in 1931 and remaining in continuous production from 1948 to the present day, the Royal Enfield Bullet is more than just a motorcycle - it’s a two-wheeled institution. 
So why has the Bullet endured for so long? Well, there’s something every variant has in common - they’re tough. The British Armed Forces immediately recognised its potential and Bullets have been the everyday transport for thousands of people all over the world.
Here we have a storied example from 1957. The vendor’s husband acquired the bike during the early 1970s and the two of them have since travelled all over the UK and Europe, remaining in constant use and always receiving regular servicing.
It’s now time for the bike to go to someone else, who hopefully will continue its globetrotting antics. It’s certainly the right bike for the job.

The History and Paperwork

The Condition

  • All appears highly original
  • Well-presented and sporting an attractive age-commensurate patina
  • Besides some light signs of age, the brightwork looks to be free from notable pitting
  • Attractive paintwork with light chips and patina as befits a motorcycle of this vintage
  • The seat upholstery does not appear heavily worn although there is a slight split on the left-hand side
  • The rubber grips appear slightly split and perished yet eminently usable
  • The speedometer/odometer unit reads clearly

The Mechanics 

  • 500 cc four-stroke single
  • Four-speed gearbox
  • Aftermarket DC voltmeter affixed to the handlebars - a sensible addition that could easily be removed
  • The engine and gearbox casings present well, as does the exhaust pipe
  • We’re informed that the bike is in running order
  • The mechanic who serviced it last year reportedly stated it was in healthy order
  • The bike has not been ridden since the last service
