The Appeal

The Austin-Healey 100-6 is surely the quintessential British roadster – stylish, playful, elegant, eminently desirable... built from 1956-59, these six-cylinder sports cars are so evocative of a bygone era, and today represent a pleasingly affordable route into classic car ownership.
This particular 100-6 was built on April 10th 1957 (we're able to be this specific because the car comes with an impressive history file!) and delivered to Bromley Motor Works.

In the 1990s it received a full restoration – all of which is photographically documented – and it went on to live in Italy, moving on to Monaco before returning to the UK in 2022. At this point it was taken to Crown Classic Cars in St Margarets for a full engine rebuild, plus a complete overhaul of the braking system, the works completed in April 2023 and amounting to over £13,000.

A fabulous runner and a real head-turner, this is a beautiful and eminently usable roadster that's eager to help you make happy motoring memories through 2025 and beyond.

The Condition

  • Wire wheels with Michelin tyres
  • Moto-Lita steering wheel
  • Soft-top and removable door panes

The interior of a 100-6 is a simple and uncluttered place, with a reassuringly classic vibe. The slender seats offer just the right amount of lateral support, and neatly tilt forward to allow access to the plus-two rear (this being the more accommodating BN4 model). There's a tasteful Moto-Lita steering wheel ahead of the retro-fabulous dash binnacle, the cream dials all operating as they should. The carpets are dry and tidy, and inside the boot we find a spare wire wheel and recent battery.

The rear backrest lifts out to reveal the roof frame, which folds out freely to form the skeleton of the soft-top; this fits neatly and latches securely onto the front screen and rear poppers, and the removable door glass panes are also present, screwing correctly into the doorcards.

Externally, the Healey is equally impressive. Resplendent in a truly head-turning combination of red-over-black, the bodywork appears solid and the shutlines are all straight and even. The light lenses and window glass are in good order, and the chrome is all in lovely gleaming condition. The car wears a set of pretty wire wheels, fitted with a quality set of matching Michelin XZX tyres with plenty of tread.

The Mechanics

  • £13,000+ spent last year
  • Engine rebuild
  • Brakes overhauled

The recent bill tells you all you need to know – with over £13,000 spent on the car last year (over £6,600 in parts alone!), the engine's been fully rebuilt to Crown Classic Cars' own spec, along with a flywheel skim, new ancillaries including the starter motor, ignition system, clutch cover and plate, and much more besides. The brakes were also overhauled, with new cylinders and shoes all around, master cylinder, Aeroquip hoses and so on – they're genuinely impressive now, far more so than you might expect a drums-all-round setup to be.

The engine idles evenly and pulls eagerly through the revs, and the overdrive-equipped four-speed gearbox shifts cleanly with no undue noise. This is a well set up car that's thoroughly entertaining to drive, and just begging to be used and enjoyed.
