The Appeal
The MG T-Types were exemplary of contemporary motoring when they first hit the market in 1936 - but post-war, that distinctly 30s styling remained stubbornly in place all the way up until the final car in the series, the MG TF. Introduced in 1953, there was no doubt that these cars were a curious sight compared to the competition - but regardless of its distinctively grilled nose and sweeping arches, the TF was a dynamic, quick and capable roadster.
This particular 1954 TF boasts an attractive, elegant colour scheme - with over £3,500 spent over the past five and a half years of ownership to keep it in excellent order. This stylish roadster is kept dry-garaged and only comes out in the sunshine, and we're informed it's a fabulous, head-turning drive.

History and Paperwork
- Built in 1953
- The DVLA records 5 previous keepers
- Owner purchased the car from Beech Hill Garage, Reading for £25,000 in March 2019
- Previous owner had died, with no history of work done over the years supplied alongside the car
- £3,584 spent on mechanical work, mostly rebuilding the carburettors and distributor (receipts included)
- Kept in a dry garage, only taken out on sunny days around the Gower
- Supplied with V5 and a collection of recent invoices
The Condition
- Chassis, ash frame, and floor indicate a body-off restoration at some time in the car's life
- Hood, frame, and side-screens all in good condition with a clear back window
- Cellulose paintwork generally in good condition with minor blemishes
- Chrome bumpers and wire wheels in good condition with mild patina
- Arches appear to be in fine fettle
- Original leather seats in original condition with some patina and discolouration
- Driver's side carpet is worn, replaced with household carpet
- Original carpet included with the car for originality
- Wooden floors are sound
- All instruments work except for the clock
- Tonneau cover is in good order

- 1,250 XPAG I4 powerplant
- Manual transmission with 4 gears
- Stainless steel exhaust fitted
- Electronic ignition, electric fan, and new water pump fitted
- Carburettors and distributor professionally refurbished
- Brakes have been relined with slave cylinder replacements
- New battery fitted a couple of weeks ago
- The vendor reports that the car smoothly with good oil pressure
- The gearbox is reportedly working well with a strong Synchromesh
- The seller also highlights that the clutch works as it should
- We're informed that the steering is positive but a bit heavy at low speed
- Car has not been put through an MOT, but brakes have been checked on a rolling road
- We've no reports of any mechanical issues
