Highlights

  • Right-hand drive from new, spending time in Australia, the US and now back in Britain
  • Restored and unused since besides a brief drive and carburettor tune
  • Accompanied by a substantial history file which includes a record of the restoration

The Appeal

The last and most advanced of MG’s T-Type models, the TF continues to prove popular amongst enthusiasts and it’s easy to see why. Retaining the pre-war aesthetics of the earliest T-Types and yet far more driveable in modern traffic, the TF is worthy of any collection and here we have a particularly fine example.
Restored to a very good standard and unused since, this MG awaits its next owner. Owing to a change in circumstances, the vendor has been unable to use the car following the completion of the last few restoration jobs. It has recently received a carburettor tune, so we understand that it’s now ready to be enjoyed.

The History and Paperwork

  • Factory right-hand drive example, which spent much of its early life in Australia
  • Latterly imported to the United States of America before making its way back to Britain in April 2007
  • Four previous UK owners
  • Exempt from road tax and MOT testing
  • Acquired by the vendor in May 2022 from a renowned vintage racing car specialist and collector in Suffolk
  • Restoration commenced with the antepenultimate owner although unfortunately, they died before it could be completed
  • The previous owner acquired the car to replace their existing MG TF, although found they hadn’t the time to finish the restoration and use it
  • The final few jobs were recently completed by the vendor and it’s now ready to be used
  • Owing to a change in circumstances, the MG now seeks a new custodian
  • Accompanied by a substantial history file
  • Numerous invoices accrued during the restoration
  • Photographic record of the restoration

The Condition

  • Presented in very good overall condition
  • Restored chassis, bodywork and interior
  • All wheels blasted and powder-coated silver
  • The vendor has reconditioned the speedometer, rev counter and oil pressure gauges
  • Smart red leather upholstery and black carpets
  • We spotted a few small marks to the paintwork, but nothing especially noticeable
  • Oatmeal fabric roof and tongue cover in used but undamaged condition
  • The chassis appears in good order and the restoration photographs show that it was restored and repainted
  • Slight surface corrosion to a few components underneath, but certainly nothing excessive
  • All the brightwork looks smart, with only the lightest of pitting

The Mechanics

  • XPAG 1250 cc four-cylinder engine
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • In present ownership, the SU carburettors have been stripped, rebuilt and polished
  • New aluminium rocker cover fitted by the vendor
  • Following a recent carburettor tune, we understand that the MG is ready to drive
  • We’re informed that it has barely been driven since the restoration was completed
