The Appeal

In many ways, the 220 represents perfect foundation for practically every Mercedes-Benz that followed. Smooth-running, beautifully engineered cars with bold, confident lines - it was a recipe that the company maintained right through to the end of the 20th century.

The W187 was the first of the company's post-war range to feature a 6-cylinder engine again - the new M180, which proved to have remarkable longevity. While the car's rather evocative period lines may not have been relevant for long, the M180 was still being fitted to new cars as late as 1985, and garnered a lot of attention upon the model's introduction. Some of the 50s press went so far as to say the new block was one of the finest engines ever put in a motor car.
This 220 was originally from Germany and was imported into Ireland in 1959. Boasting plenty of originality, this marvellous cruiser is now ready and waiting for some restoration work before it can return to the road. Other than this, it's a nice, solid car that's well deserving of attention, with much of its period ritz still fully intact.
