The Appeal

Released under new Standard Motor Company Ownership, the Renown was Triumph's full size saloon, pitched as a more affordable alternative to Rolls-Royce and Bentley's post-war offerings.

With its fashionable Razoredge bodywork built in aluminium (owing to the lack of steel) by Mulliners of Birmingham, the Renown and smaller Mayflower were striking to behold, embodying a style that was very popular at the time. Those with Laycock de Normanville overdrive fitted would comfortably cruise at 55-60mph - more than adequate in its day and still capable of being used amidst modern traffic.

This 1951 Triumph Renown is a delightful example of the marque; highly original and suitably patinated. Remarkably, it's had just two registered keepers from new, remaining in current ownership for 42 years! It has been dry garage stored for over three decades and continues to be driven in order to keep the mechanicals in healthy condition.

The bodywork was resprayed 15 years ago, maintaining its original Maroon colour, and the wheels have recently been fitted with four brand new tyres. With a comprehensive history file and a host of period features still intact, this Renown proves a  real head-turner out on the road and proved its worth transporting both the vendor's daughters to their weddings.
