The Appeal
The Series I is where it all began; the genesis of "The Best 4x4xFar". Inspired by the wartime Willys Jeep, its simple, rugged design was scribed in the sands of an Anglesey beach by Rover's Chief Designer Maurice Wilks. The Land Rover was exactly the sort of car post-war Britain needed and would go on to be one of the most successful off-roaders of all time.
We're honoured to present this very early example - a 1951 "lights through grille" Series I. This nickname was the first revision of the original design - although the 1.6-litre engine displacement and 80" wheelbase remained.
This Land Rover has undergone meticulous restoration by a retired engineer and with only 2,570 miles covered since, it's in superb condition. The car is future-proofed for years to come thanks to a new galvanised chassis and a replacement bulkhead sourced from the dry climate of Australia. We'd be confident to use it during the winter months without worrying too much about the onset of corrosion. Mechanically, it boasts a rebuilt engine by the renowned Cox and Turner, along with a rebuilt gearbox, axles, and braking system. The current (voluntary) MOT, valid until July 2025, adds an extra layer of assurance for prospective buyers.
