The Attractions

In 1926 the historic German motorbike manufacturer NSU built its new plant in Heilbronn to produce its first automobiles, but after three years it became clear that the project had failed. Fiat therefore bought the plant and started building cars under the NSU-Fiat brand.

And it is one of these cars that we can admire here, a 1940 NSU-Fiat 500 Spyder Weinsberg based on the 'Topolino' platform. The seller informs us that only 340 examples were built, very few of which have survived to this day, and this one is certainly one of the best ever. The seller bought it in 2005 from a museum. Although it was already in good condition, the seller subjected it to a complete restoration to a high standard, which earned it several prizes at prestigious competitions and events.

Complete with ASI 'Targa Oro' registration, FIVA identity card and fitted with an MOT valid until 28/02/2026, this NSU-FIAT would be a highly prestigious addition to any collection.

History and Documents

  • Revision valid until 28/02/2026
  • Equipped with FIVA Identity Card
  • ASI 'Targa Oro'
  • Believed to be one of only 340 examples produced
  • Purchased by the seller in 2005 from an Austrian museum
  • Restored by the current owner to the original specifications, using photographs and records of the time as reference
  • The odometer shows 28,341 km
  • Its impeccable restoration has earned it several prizes at Concours d'Elegance - in particular, it was awarded at the Salvarola Terme International Concours d'Elegance
  • Very rarely used after restoration - has covered only around 300-400 kilometres

Condition

  • The bodywork is in excellent condition and the seller informs us that it is 'as new'
  • The restoration has tried to respect the original features down to the smallest detail - (dashboard, headlight dimensions, wheel covers, etc.)
  • The car was painted with nitro paint (eight coats)
  • The interior was made based on pictures and advertisements of the time
This car has been meticulously restored and, given its rarity, the seller has sought out period photographs and advertisements to ensure that even the smallest details have been restored to their correct original condition.

Needless to say, it presents itself impeccably in every respect, and the quality of the restoration is confirmed by the awards it has received at various prestigious competitions and events. There are no signs of visible wear to report, nor any damage or signs of corrosion as the car has been driven very little since the restoration.

The Mechanics

  • This NSU is equipped with the original 569 cm³ four-cylinder engine
  • Four-speed manual gearbox
  • The engine was completely rebuilt in 2005 and has covered no more than 300-400 kilometres since then, as the car has only been used for shows and competitions
  • No defects or problems were detected during the periodic overhaul
  • The engine compartment is impeccable
The seller informs us that this NSU-Fiat has correct and matching serial numbers, which is very rare for a car of this era. Its mechanics were rebuilt during the restoration and it has covered very few kilometres since then.

The seller reports that it drives exactly as it should, with no suspicious noises or defects to report.
