The Appeal
The Morris Cowley was an immediate success in the earlier days of the British automobile. The distinctive bullnose bay have been replaced with a traditional flat radiator by 1926, but the essential ethos was the same. It was one of many feathers in the cap for the legendary William Morris - a simple, but capable and rugged vehicle that was soon exploring the (still largely cobbled) roads in substantial numbers.
Of course, a rugged well-built car of the era was equally duty-bound to be converted into a van at some point, and the Flatnose was a strong contender. This particular example's wooden body is immediately charming, and it's carrying a lovely patina. The 1548cc side-valve straight-four is still offering its distinctive note, and we understand it's still more than capable of roaming the network.
This Cowley Commercial, built in 1928, has been subject to restoration work over the years|, and while it hasn't been driven extensively in the past year, it starts well and drives as expected for a vehicle of its era. The car's exterior, finished in a classic blue, and its functional, sparse interior add to its vintage charm.
The History and Paperwork

Four registered keepers from new
Repainted to current livery in 1986
Comes with a current V5C
MOT and tax exempt
No additional paperwork or service history available
The Condition
The woodwork appears to be in good order throughout with no sign of rot or woodworm
Some discolouration in places where the protective coating over the wood has been worn down
Reasonable condition underneath and in the bodywork with signs of work over the years
The paint is a little dull but generally presents well
Most wear is between panels and hatches
Patina to the trims and brasswork
Calormeter is looking somewhat tired
The canvas hood and side screens are showing their age, but are still doing their job
Ultimately, this commercial is carrying some wear and patina throughout - but is still very attractive and usable
Interior is very sparse and functional with seats covered in sacks
Some patina and wear across the cabin
Leather seats have been covered in sackcloth and appear to carry age-commensurate wear
Floors and rear bay appear solid
The Mechanics
1,548cc side-valve four-cylinder engine
Manual transmission
Engine bay carries some corrosion and patina
We're told that the van starts well and drives as expected for a Morris of this era
We're further informed that it's in good running order but has not been run properly for a year or so
Ultimately this offers plenty of potential for the van's future
