The Attractions
Of the many sports cars built in Paris in the 1920s, the Amilcar was definitely at the highest level. Built by André Morel and Edmond Moyet and designed to excel in competition, the Amilcars were not only fashionable sports cars, their qualities also stood out on the racetrack.
The desire to triumph in racing led to the high-performance CGS model and later to the more advanced Amilcar - the CGSS. The additional 'S' stands for Surbaisse, or 'lowered'. The CGS 'S Type' was also equipped with a modified camshaft, a shortened chassis and larger brakes. A supercharged version surpassed all its rivals in the Monte Carlo Rally of '27.
Enthusiasts obviously love the CGSS. Today, as in those days, they are extremely competitive cars, perfect for classic car rallies and historic events. They are also very rare cars - in fact only 4,700 of the two models were built, and of these the CGSS is the rarest. And when compared to Bugattis, similar in style and equally capable, they offer great value.
This beautiful 1927 CGSS has been completely restored. It is clear from looking at it that the restoration gave top priority to originality: it is a car with matching serial numbers and has many interesting original and correct Amilcar details under the bonnet and in the cabin. It has been driven rarely, participating in classic car events, and is ready to be driven and enjoyed by its next owner.

Admiring the photographs of this beautiful CGSS, one cannot help but compare it to the Bugatti. The Amilcar shares its sleek 'boat tail' lines and sporty, racer-like stance.
The CGSS was based on the much-loved CGS, over which it offered a lower front axle, shortened rear springs - by 3.9 inches - and a shorter wheelbase (reduced to 92 inches). These minor but important differences improved its handling, stance and overall set-up: this car definitely stood out from other contemporary Parisian sports cars.
In the 1990s, the seller bought this car as a chassis in France. It was subsequently restored to a high standard in Italy. The quality of the restoration work is evident in the photographs and evidenced by the excellent shape it still retains years later. Presented in a classic racing red colour with black leather interior, it shows great attention to detail in every aspect. The many striking Amilcar finishes - from the passenger footrest to the multiple Jaeger dials to the engine accessories - are indicative of meticulous restoration.

The CGS was equipped with the largest and most powerful Amilcar engine of 1,047cm³. The CGSS was further refined, adding a more powerful camshaft to increase power to 35 hp. The fuel tank was enlarged to increase the racing range.
This car is believed to be an Amilcar CGSS with matching serial numbers. As the photographs show, it has been beautifully finished in every detail with original components and trim. It has been reported to us that it is in excellent running condition and starts easily with either the crank or the button in the cockpit.
