It was launched by MG (Morris Garages) as a more powerful and refined model, in response to the growing demand for higher performance sports cars. It was powered by the 2. 9-litre in-line six-cylinder engine, a derivative of the engine used in the MGC, offering more power (145 bhp) than the traditional four-cylinder MG B. The GT model was distinguished by its coupé design, with a hardtop and a more aerodynamic line, different from the roadster version of the MG B. This model was designed to offer extra comfort and enhanced performance while remaining an affordable sports car. Although the MG C GT had some success, its production was relatively limited (just 9, 000 units), and it was eventually replaced in 1969 by the MG B V8, due to the growing popularity of eight-cylinder engines and the high production cost of the MGC.
