A collector's item for the discerning enthusiast, a SHELBY 427 COBRA FAM tribute! History Is it worth recalling the history of the Cobra? It was in 1960 that Texan Carroll Shelby, a former racing driver and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, began negotiations with British manufacturer AC Cars and the Ford Motor Company with a view to building the fastest and most aggressive racing car ever conceived to beat the Ferraris in the GT category: the AC Cobra. In July 1965, he succeeded in winning the Constructors' World Championship. An initial '260' version was followed by the '289', a Daytona roadster and coupé, and then in 1965 by the most fantastical: the '427' with its body-built wings. Total production was around a thousand cars, including just under 350 '427' versions, before the brand disappeared. In the 1980s, as investors in the art and classic car markets became frenzied, a plethora of replica manufacturers sprang up; Carroll Shelby was convinced that the time was right to relaunch production of the legendary 427 S/ C, production of which had stopped at serial number CSX 3560 in the mid-1960s. The first prototype left the workshop in 1993, and in January 1995 he announced the opening of a production unit in Las Vegas. In 1997, the CSX 4000 series was launched, based on a chassis built by Mc Cluskey Ltd. These Cobras, built entirely in the USA, are known as "continuations". Production continues to this day. But in 2003, Carroll Shelby took advantage of AC's revival in the UK to plan a new production run based on what was done in the 1960s: chassis and body built in the UK before being shipped to the USA to be powered and finished. Thus, 40 years later, the original Cobra assembly was resumed and the 1965 CSX1000 series was produced. In the end, only 14 examples left the workshops, built between 2005 and 2006 at Shelby's request by AC Motors Holding (heir to AC Cars) in England, using period tools and a hand-formed aluminium body, then finished in the USA under the master's supervision. Of these 14 examples, Shelby took the piss out of Ferrari with the actual production of two models (out of the 10 planned) that he named the '427 Cobra FAM'. The FAM stands for 'Ferrari's Ass is Mine'. We all remember the great rivalry between Ford Racing, Shelby's partner, and Ferrari in the 1960s, particularly in the Le Mans 24 Hours. For those who have forgotten, I refer you back to your studies: watch the film "Le Mans 66" again! As part of this affront to Ferrari, the legendary 'Rosso Corsa' red was used to paint the aluminium bodywork. Everything refers to the Scuderia. The FAM badges on the bonnet, boot and above the side windows are specific: the nod could not be clearer. The most famous of these two cars is the CSX 1010, acquired by actor Paul Walker. Under its bonnet is a Ford 427 FE V8, uprated to 468ci and rated at 550bhp. This engine is mated to a Tremec TKO600 5-speed manual gearbox. The rest of the specification remains faithful to the original, with 4-wheel independent suspension and Wilwood brakes. Paul Walker's red 1965-type Shelby "427 Cobra FAM" was sold at auction by Mecum Auctions in 2021 for the modest sum of $395, 000. - details above Source: Cobra Club de France forum - details above-"-427-cobra-fam-"/ Description We are offering for sale this magnificent replica AC Cobra 427SC , produced in the early 1980s by the American company ERA.
