And as with the 203, the previous model, the bonnet was adorned with a lion's head, mouth open, the symbol of the brand. The following year, new safety regulations banned any protruding object from the front of cars, deemed dangerous in the event of a collision with a pedestrian or cyclist. Peugeot was forced to withdraw its famous mascot. The 403 was designed to meet a growing demand for reliable, comfortable and modern family cars. Its design, performance and commercial success marked a milestone in the history of the motor car. The 403 was part of a strategy to broaden the brand's offer while consolidating its reputation for reliability. The design of the 403, by the famous Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, introduced more modern and elegant lines than those of its predecessors. It was one of the first fruits of the collaboration between Peugeot and Pininfarina, an alliance that left a lasting mark on the style of the brand's cars. Its success was based on several factors: exceptional mechanical reliability; driving comfort adapted to long journeys; controlled fuel consumption and maintenance costs. A little anecdote: the 403 was the first car in the world to be fitted with a thermostatic radiator, allowing better control of engine temperature. A REVOLUTION!
