Description

1965 Heinkel Tourist 103 A2 with good history and upgrades available in North Devon, UK - 12v electric start, 4 stroke 175cc.

Originally restored by the late, great Martin Plummer it has what’s thought to be the only foot gear change conversion in the UK (using a kit from Germany) - one forward, three back. It also runs Bayer Bransden electronic ignition through a pair of good quality sealed batteries.

After Martin it was owned by Paul Cowan who set up the main Heinkel Tourist group on Facebook 14 years ago, then it went into a private collection where it didn’t get used much in the last couple of years.

The paint, bodywork, frame and engine all appear to be in great shape, with just a few marks here and there. Seat is excellent, and it has a professionally made custom floor mat. It has an original rear carrier, spare wheel and cover, original side stand plus main centre stand. It reads just under 5, 000 miles, no idea if that’s accurate but it certainly sounds, looks and feels good - there is one MoT certificate from 2015 which states the mileage was 4787 and 4384 in 2014.

It starts on the key cold or hot, runs smoothly, pulls well and the gears/ brakes work. The foot gear change takes a bit of getting used to, and the control cables might need adjusting to suit your technique.

I have carried out an oil change using Castrol SAE 30, replaced the perished throttle grips and indicator switch - plus a general check and a few short road tests and all seems to be working as it should.

Because it had been standing for a couple of years before it came to me, the previous owner advised cleaning the carburettor and possibly replacing the throttle cable - I haven’t done this as I have not worked on Heinkels or Bing carbs before, however a new club-supplied throttle cable and carb gasket set/ spring are included in the sale along with an owners manual plus a spare gear cable and rear brake cable.

Having bought it only a few weeks ago, my circumstances have changed, so I need to pass this beauty on. All keys are present and working, V5 in my name (tax and MoT exempt) - looking for £3000.

I can help with professional bike shippers local to me. Note this is a 60 year old bike, no warranty given or implied. Inspections welcome and happy to do video walk around. This is a unique and stunning vintage scooter, designed to cruise along the roads in comfort and style! Spare parts and service items are readily available, and there’s great support the the Heinkel Trojan Club in the UK plus similar clubs in the EU, plus support through owners in specialist Facebook groups.
