Why Bluebell?
If you’re looking for a genuine and original rare-spec camper to become part of your family, Bluebell is ready to go. She’s not just a vehicle – she’s a piece of history, lovingly preserved and sympathetically updated for reliability and usability. Bluebell is completely original and honest and in need of no work to continue being used for camping trips, touring or shows. If you are expecting a repainted, retrimmed van this is not the van for you. She is a van for someone wanting to enjoy and use her but retain her provinence. Owned by enthusiast and Automotive Design Engineer with 25 years experience working in the luxury car industry.
Her Story
Originally purchased by the Arndt family in Switzerland, Bluebell was bought fully spec'd and toured Europe before being shipped to Florida under VW’s Tourist Delivery Programme. She faithfully served the family on summer holidays to New Hampshire until 1996, when ownership passed to their daughter, Dottie. Bluebell spent the next decade carefully dry stored in a garage, used only once for a short day trip.
In 2006, she was imported to the UK by a colleague and underwent a mechanical overhaul before being used for camping and leisure. I acquired her in 2009 after an extensive search across UK for an original, unmodified van – Bluebell stood out far beyond anything else I had seen.
