Description
I have this lovely Mazda Eunos 1. 8 V-Special for sale. First registered in Japan in November 1994, its finished in Neo Green with tan leather seats and trim and its a little unusual because it has an automatic gearbox.
Specification is pretty good and includes electric windows, chrome electric mirrors, power steering, and a Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel. Its covered around 163300 kilometres (about 102000 miles) and its just lovely to drive. You might be forgiven for thinking an auto box is less than ideal for a sports car but this drives so well and it suits the auto gearbox perfectly.
Before I tell you more, let me tell you about Goodwood Sportscars and why should you buy from me:
I have been buying and selling Mazda MX5s for over 20 years now. While I'm a car dealer, I consider myself to be a car enthusiast above all else. I'll only sell cars that actual interest me as an enthusiast. I live, sleep and breath quick cars and have sold literally thousands of performance cars over a thirty year period. I have competed in various forms of motorsport including the Scottish Hillclimb Championship (in an MX5 of course). So I'm pretty good at spotting a good MX5 and at making one work to the best of its ability. I've had many thousands of MX5s through my hands and know their strengths and weaknesses well.
Bodywork is such a big deal on an MX5/ Eunos and on this one, its very good indeed. There is no rust on wheel arches, sills, wings etc. Its spent quite a few years over in Portugal and I’m guessing that the climate there has helped maintain the good condition of its bodyshell. Underneath, floors, lower sills chassis rails etc are all in strong and sound condition. All running gear, subframes and suspension are in good clean order. Paintwork is good though certainly not brilliant: it has a various minor stone chips and the odd light scratch commensurate with its age. Its still a good looking and very presentable car though. Its sitting on a set of 14” Mazda ‘Daisy’ alloy wheels (in good condition) and these are fitted with a matching set of Avon tyres, again all in good condition. The black mohair soft top (with glass window) is in good order with no splits or damage.
Inside, the leather seats show some wear with quite a few creases and a small hole on the bottom of the driver’s bolster but still look good. Carpets and trim are in good order: there are a few light marks on the dash top and there are some tiny holes on the passenger door trim (see photos) but even so, its a nice place to be and has a proper ‘classic car’ feel to it. Its fitted with a Kenwood stereo complete with Bluetooth facility and it also has speakers in the headrests, great for listening to music with the top down. Everything inside works as it should including the electric windows.
Mechanically its all good too: the engine is typical MX5 in that it feels sweet and strong while the gearbox works perfectly, changing up and down smoothly. The ‘Overdrive’ function works nicely too. As usual I like to cover a good 250 miles in all of my sales cars and I can confirm that this one drives as a good MX5 should. In preparation for its sale, its just been comprehensively checked over and serviced with new oil, spark plugs and filters. Its recently had a new radiator fitted and the cambelt and water pump have been replaced at least three times over the years. Electric windows have been cleaned and greased as have door locks, drain holes cleared, handbrake adjusted etc, The brakes are in good order with discs and pads having with plenty of life. Its MOT tested until April 2026.
Handling is excellent with lovely ride quality while still handling just as a good MX5 should. I’ve had great fun blasting around out local country lanes in this: its genuinely terrific to drive and way, way better than you might expect an automatic to be.
There is a file full of receipts showing work carried out over the years and it has two keys. This could easily be used every day and it really is the painless way into classic/ fun car ownership and price is £4750.
I'm based in Berwick on Tweed, near the Scottish Border and I can collect any prospective buyer from the local train station or I can arrange to have the car delivered by a trusted transport company at extra cost. I’m well known in the MX5 world and know these cars well. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions – if you are genuinely interested, you’ll have plenty and I’m happy to talk about MX5s all day. I'm also happy to give you an honest description and if there any faults or issues with the car, I much prefer to tell you up front, so you are clear about what you are buying.
