Description
This 1985 Porsche 944 Turbo is for sale as a non-running project, requiring attention to the engine, paintwork renovation and some smaller jobs to be completed prior to recommissioning for the road.
It comes in the original colour of Zermatt Silver with a maroon interior and ‘Oval’ dash design, the leather seats show some wear consistent with the age of the vehicle. The 17inch alloy wheels are Carrera Cup style and in very good condition, the tyres all have tread remaining but may need to be replaced due to age.
I’ve owned the Porsche since 2008 and have the V5 document in my name, it comes with the service history book, numerous invoices and a stack of previous MOT certificates. As an early Turbo (951) model it is now approaching 40 years of age, and once returned to roadworthy condition, will therefore be eligible for historic vehicle tax exemption.
The car had the clutch replaced in 2021 along with a new waterpump and cambelt / balance shaft belt, the inner and outer sills were also replaced on both sides around the same time. The engine was also fully serviced in 2022 with new spark plugs, distributor, filters and replacement of oil and coolant fluids.
In 2023 it was parked under cover for Winter but unfortunately has not run since, the engine turns over but for some unknown reason will not start. The pump relay has been replaced and it appears that fuel reaches the injector rail, however no other components have been checked and a decision has been made to move it on and avoid further expense.
In addition to the engine issue there is likely to be other work required, including attention to the brakes, replacement of the battery and checking of the electrical systems. The paint will also need improvement in several areas around the car, but particularly the rear wheel arches where some corrosion is evident to the leading edges.
Points of interest can be summarised as follows:-
- 179k miles
- Zermatt Silver with maroon interior
- 17" Porsche 'Cup' alloy wheels
- Thatcham approved immobiliser
- Electric windows and mirrors
- Electric removable sunroof
- Climate control air conditioning
- Current owner since 2008
- HPI clear with no history of accidents
Due to other commitments I’m not going to be able to carry out the work required to resurrect it, so would be pleased to see someone else rescue this increasingly rare car. The Porsche cannot be driven and would need to be trailered away at the buyer’s expense, I’m located in Manchester and can be available for viewings at your convenience.
If you’re interested in taking on this project please don’t hesitate to contact me, any sensible offers in the region of £9, 500 will be considered.
