Description

1991 Honda Civic 1. 6i-VT EE9
I have taken around 200 photos of the car, if interested in seeing more please contact me and I can send you the link to the photo folder.

Rare Pewter grey

The car is in excellent condition inside and out, and mechanically perfect. You would struggle to find another original Civic EE9 in this condition out there, but that also drives faultlessly and a car that you can take out and enjoy.

Plus in one of the best original colours in my opinion. The paintwork is like glass, the photos don't do it justice.

Fresh MOT until April 2026, zero advisories since 2015.

The car drives incredibly well, VTEC engages and functions perfectly, it’s a smooth ride and tracks perfectly straight and is a lot of fun to drive.

It is also fitted with power steering like on the original EF9s which is a huge bonus, all the original fixing holes and brackets are there, so it looks original.

The car was fully restored by an award winning restorer who had many civics and CRX’s so he knew these cars well. The engine was also rebuilt, see details on the restoration below. The car has no rust and the shell is the best he had seen, with all its original panels. If there are Civics and CRX’s out there that haven't had some level of restoration and maintenance then they will need it and this car has had everything done, mechanically and cosmetically.

Restored at 125, 000 miles and it now has 140, 000 so essentially since full restoration it’s done 15, 000 miles

It’s only ever been in one accident, which was a very small bump to the bottom of the passenger side rear quarter panel where there was a small dent.

This happened in 2006 and I’ve spoken with the owner who had the car at that time and he’s a very nice guy. Someone who was on their driving test made the wrong turn at a small junction and bumped into the bottom of the panel and dented it slightly. It was non-structural and the car sustained a small amount of damage which the then owner got fixed by pulling the dent out and had the area repainted. However because these cars were worth very little in 2006 the insurance classed it as a category C and said the cost of repairs to the damage outweighed the value of the car. Category C, means the costs to repair any damage on a car is more expensive than the value of the car, so therefore it is written off.

So unfortunately it is on a category C however unlike a lot of category cars, everything about what happened is known here and the owner is contactable, and the fact there has only ever been one accident and that it was a very small one, is a positive.

Given everything that has been done to this civic in my ownership and in the previous ownership with the restoration, I would say it’s one of the most original and immaculate civics in the country and in such good condition because it was completely restored. I have spent a lot of time, research and money on sourcing brand new Honda OEM parts that tend to go missing over the years, I have replaced the interior bits that tend to wear and break and many exterior parts that also tend to wear and degrade over time.

The only negatives to the car is the number of owners it has had and the insurance category, however the fact that the history of the accident, and the category is all known and up front, and you can speak to the owner it happened to, I think is a positive. A lot of cars with insurance categories on them the history is not known and nobody knows why the category is there or what happened in the accident. This car is category C for a very small cosmetic prang in 2006 when the car had very little value and did not permanently change the car itself in any way.

The biggest positive though, that I think overrides the insurance category attached to the car and the high number of owners, is the fact the car was meticulously restored by and has been very well cared for and looked after for the past 10 years. What you have is an original, mint and straight Civic that drives just as well as looks, ready to be enjoyed.

This is one of those rare occasions where an unmodified EF Civic, let alone a VTEC EE9, becomes available that is in mint condition with no rot or rust, no requirement to respray or do any work and has had all of the minor and major glitches fixed with original equipment sourced from Japan and elsewhere. It is one of the finest EF Civics in the country and on the market today. Work done:
Fitted and painted an original brand new EE9/ EF9 bumper that was still in Honda packaging and not even painted yet, it was still in primer from the factory. Very difficult to find. Came from Germany
The original bumper had the grille cut out and I wanted to make it perfect.

New fuel filter and rocker cover gasket March 2025

New NGK spark plugs fitted February 2025

New original front indicator lights, very hard to find. Due to the risk of fading and stone chips/ scratches these have been protected with XPEL PPF, they stay looking crystal clear and new.

The car has been professionally detailed, polished and ceramic coated.

All original new side trim protector pieces both doors, rear quarter and front wings - very hard to find.
I have the correct red pinstripe for the trim and bumpers
From Germany and Netherlands
Replaced roof trim gutter metal strips as they were perished and breaking away

Interior door handles cracked and broke - sourced new original black EE9 ones and fitted them

New original EE9/ EF9 VTEC steering wheel
From France
New original gear knob
From Japan

All new original Honda headlight, side light, indicator and brake light bulbs from Japan

New original handbrake handle/ lever, the original had faded blue/ grey which is very common.

A new cambelt and water pump were fitted during its 2022 service.

New alternator and aux belt Dec 2024

I still have the original Denso alternator which has been restored and reconditioned .

4x new Goodyear efficient grip tyres fitted at 135, 000 miles

4x original EE9 VTEC alloys refurbished and repainted

New original tail lights, that I sealed and made new foam EPDM gaskets for to prevent water leaks inside them which is a very common issue and leads to a lot of these rear lights on EF Civics to be mouldy and cloudy- very hard to find these lights in new condition

New original spec springs fitted to improve the ride and make it a more original ride height fitted February 2025

4x new carpets for interior

New battery

New wiper blades all around

New windows, previous ones were very scratched and not in good condition, managed to find a set from another civic that were in great condition with no scratches

Various small scratches and chips touched up with the paint matched colour

New original front window seals
From Japan

New original EE9/ EF9 mud flaps all around, very hard to find anywhere in good condition let alone new
From Germany

Notes from the restoration (This is a brief summary of the restoration, there was much more done to the car) -

The car was stripped, the shell was in excellent condition only needing the rear arches rebuilding, he used new rear arch outer repair panels which were fully welded in, and there were some small repairs to the sills where sill cover fixings had been.

The whole car was inspected and it has its original wings, sills etc, none of its body panels had been replaced, which is amazing on a Civic.

The car was rust proofed, into the sills, and all enclosed areas.

The car was prepped for painting, fully primed and painted in its original colour.

The interior was removed and cleaned, the front door cards are CRX VTI which actually suit it quite well, everything else is standard.

The interior is in excellent condition with its original seats, very rare for one of these, many people at shows have commented they have never seen a complete interior before.
The suspension was removed and checked standard struts with KYB original spec springs, the front suspension is standard and had new ball joints, new anti roll bar bushes, track rod ends and wheel bearings. The rear suspension has alloy control arms, new track control arm bushes and anti roll bar bushes.

Brakes are standard EE9, with new discs and pads all round, damaged brake pipes were replaced with copper pipes.
A new fuel tank was fitted.

The engine was checked, the head was skimmed and rebuilt with the valves lapped in, new valve stem oil seals, Lma’s. The bottom end was inspected and checked and was in excellent condition, rebuilt with all new gaskets and seals. Cams, valve springs, inlet valves, Inlet manifold, Idle air control valve, throttle body and fuel pressure regulator all from a 1998 Honda Integra DC2 Type R were fitted to the engine. Since its engine overhaul Shell Helix 5w 40 Ultra fully Synthetic Oil has been used and only been run on premium E5 petrol, Shell or Momentum99.
The exhaust is a full stainless steel system which sounds very nice, not loud or obnoxious, has a really nice exhaust note and sound, it was custom made by an exhaust company in Halifax.
The gearbox was reconditioned by Steve at Grinspeed in Leyland, a well
known Honda specialist, he rebuilt the gearbox with synchrotech carbon
synchros, and fitted a Quaife ATB LSD as well as a short shift gear change and a new Exeddy clutch.
