Description

£9k spent in last 5 years, 82k miles, engine rebuild, overdrive, free-wheeling hubs, sound deadening.

One of the best, most original Series IIIs you will find in the UK. MOT and road tax exempt.

Unlike many of the restored Series 3s it still has its original chassis and bulkhead and they are as close to immaculate as you can get with a 50-year-old Land Rover. It also still has its original 4 cylinder 2. 25 petrol engine which I’ve had restored at a Gloucestershire Defender and Series Land Rover specialist where its cylinder bores were honed and new pistons added, as well valves cleaned, new gaskets added and a long list more, all shown in the pictured receipt. I have just had a new Weber carb fitted plus more work carried out to the exhaust. It also comes with front free-wheeling hubs, lowering road resistance and increasing fuel economy (which I have calculated to be roughly 25mpg on a run), as well as overdrive and all-around Wright Off Road and Dodo Dead Matt Hex sound deadening to provide a quieter cabin on long drives. It was originally commissioned as an Australian military vehicle. The windows fitted to the hardtop as well as a few other interesting modifications such as the additional air vents and reserve fuel tank (now removed, but still with dual filler caps) are all unique to the Australian military imports and make the cabin a far nicer place to be with much better visibility than a standard Series van. The bone-dry climate of Australia added to the high level of maintenance military vehicles receive mean that it is in remarkably good condition everywhere. The chassis and bulkhead are solid. We’ve added some Lanoguard where needed but I haven’t added any before selling so that the prospective buyer can see the original chassis clearly to see that there has been no welding. It was imported into the UK in 2019, where it was bought by the previous owner in London who spent over £4k on it in his year or so of ownership and during my four years of ownership it has been kept parked inside, pictured above, and had a further £4k spent on whilst being driven less than 1k miles a year when the sun’s out.

It is running perfectly and has had no expense spared and no stone left unturned. For someone looking for an original Series 3 that they can enjoy from day one and keep as a safe investment, this is your car.
