Description
1971 VW Type 2 Viking Roof Camper
I have owned this for around 9 years now, using it for family camping trips around the UK. This has been as far as Cornwall from Sheffield. It has had limited use in the last 4/ 5 years.
It has had a new engine (uprated 1641cc) 4 years ago, the mileage then was 46202, the mileage now is 46704 so it is only just run in. It also had a new gearbox back in 2022 so all the running gear is as new. This was all purchased from TES engines who are well renowned for building aircooled VW stuff. I fitted twin EMPI carbs and with the uprated engine the van gets down the road nicely and cruises easily down the motorway. I think the total spend from looking at the receipts is around 3k on the engine, gearbox and carbs.
The interior is good with matching door cars and front seats. It has a new leisure battery and a split charge system. It hooks up to the electric when camping. It has a fridge, sink with water storage and pump, and gas hob. The interior lighting and stereo all run from the leisure battery. It has good storage and a 3/ 4 rock and roll bed. The Viking pop top is the large sized one that enable a number of people to sleep in the roof. The pop up works fine. The canvas is watertight but has had few patch repairs.
The body work is in decent order in the main, but the bottom of the sliding door could do with replacing. I have bought the panels (included) but have not got around to getting this done. It is not a show winner but is presentable and useable.
