Description
SUPER RARE 1986 Alfa Romeo 75 Quadrifoglio Verde (Green Cloverleaf) for sale, with 2. 5 V6 "Busso" engine and 5-speed gearbox.
I have a large folder of service & parts receipts and also the original 1987 owners pack, containing original stamped service booklet and manual!
The car underwent a full strip-out around 2020, with a rust restored body and floorpan, New floor insulation, repainted bumpers, brand new fuel tank, fuel pump and filter, the engine was also rebuilt at the same time by the previous owner (photographic record available), and amongst other new parts, a new alloy radiator was fitted.
It starts first time, runs & drives great with that fabulous "Busso" V6 throaty rasp! (Videos of the car starting and also a full underbody walk-through available on request.)
I have owned this car for several years and have featured it in 3 videos on my Alfa Romeo Youtube channel:
- details above
I continued the restoration by fitting a very expensive brand new (old stock) fuel tank which I sourced & imported from Austria and also fitted a new fuel filter & pipe clips.
I also cleaned up the brakes and interior, engine bay and MOT'd the car last year, which it passed easily with a few very minor advisories! I would be happy to put a brand new MOT on the car if an acceptable price is agreed.
The car is fitted with unmarked silver 15" Revolution style 5-spoke alloy wheels, chromed wheel bolts and excellent tyres & exhaust. The electrics all work apart from the rear window switches and (advanced for the time) dashboard-mounted diagnostic computer, called "Alfa Romeo Control", which monitored the engine systems and alerted drivers of potential faults. This along with many other 75's of the same era, has given up the ghost and flashes erratically, although having dismantled & checked it, there is no corrosion or damage, so could possibly be fixed by fitting new sensors, or servicing by an electronic specialist. Key operated central locking works perfectly.
Still to be done:
The 75 presents well but on closer inspection, needs some minor areas repainted, due to some small blemishes and also some "kind" person in the past has left a big scratch across the bonnet, which will need to be remedied. The headlining is currently missing, but the all-important moulded fibreboard backing is in place, so this can be retrimmed quite easily by any competent automotive trimmer.
Due to the original seats being damaged / worn out, the previous owner has sourced and fitted a full grey velvet interior from a Twin Spark car, (including door cards) which is not original but is in lovely condition and looks great. One of the rear door cards has a hole from a window winder handle, which this car never had due to electric windows all-round.
The propshaft which spins at engine-speed (due to the rear-mounted gearbox & clutch) has a vibration at speed and ideally needs to be removed and balanced, which is reasonably inexpensive at one of the many propshaft specialists around the UK and the gearbox has a couple of weak synchros, so rev matching whilst downshifting gives a much cleaner shift. This is also easily fixed by a specialist such as "Alex Jupe Motorsports" in West Sussex.
The car is stored in a dry, well-ventilated indoor garage and is kept dust free and on a battery trickle charger, to ensure it starts first time, every time. I also have a few random spare parts which will be supplied with the car.
A great prospect for some satisfying cosmetic finishing off, with all the hard mechanical & restoration work already having been done. This is a super rare and historically important car, being the last ever independently-developed model by Alfa Romeo before they were taken over by FIAT!
Featuring a rear, (transaxle) mounted gearbox, near perfect 50/ 50 weight distribution and great handling from the De Dion rear suspension and front torsion bar and shock absorber setup. This "Little QV" car also features the legendary V6 2. 5 litre, fuel-injected "Busso" motor, invented by genius designer Guiseppe Busso, who was also responsible for the first Ferrari formula one engine, amongst others!
The engine, gearbox & running gear are almost identical to the 116-series Alfetta GTV car of the 1970's and '80's, which featured in the 1983 James Bond film "Octopussy" (Amongst others!).
This is an extremely rare and increasingly sought-after modern classic, the "How many left" website estimates that only 18 2. 5 V6 Alfa Romeo 75's are still in existence in the UK, with just 3 cars on the road and a further 15 registed as "SORN" or off the road.
The European-spec 2. 5 V6 (2. 5 6V Iniezione or 2. 5QV) was officially sold only between 1985 and 1987, although some of them were not registered until 1989. Relatively few of them were sold, (about 2, 800 units in total.)
The striking and uncompromisingly 1980's body was designed by head of Centro Stile Alfa Romeo Ermanno Cressoni & the car was named to celebrate Alfa Romeo's 75th anniversary.
The car still retains it's original leather-bound steering wheel, gearknob and quirky "Aircraft-style" handbrake lever marking it out as a unique Alfa Romeo and is becoming very collectable now, due to its rarity and status as the last ever "true" in-house Alfa developed car.
There is also a growing appreciation of it's 1980's square-edged design language.
Owning cars like these gives a better return than money in the bank and will continue to appreciate year on year if kept in good, driveable condition and can also be enjoyed on sunny days, as a feel-good reminder of the days when cars were built with the sole intention to flatter and excite the driver! This car could be worth double this asking price with some further improvements - sadly I am having to sell the 75 in order to fund new projects for my Youtube channel.
Just ask if you would like to see a walk-through video of a complete inspection, (up on my car lift) of the engine, floorpan and boot of this car - NO RUST problems!
Viewings in person could be possible by arrangement, or video calls to give a tour of the car. Any questions please ask
Many thanks
