1976 TVR 3000M
3 Litre Ford Essex V6 engine. 4 speed gearbox with overdrive. Webasto sunroof with vinyl roof. 36, 500 miles. I bought this car about three years ago. The previous owner had owned the car for 20 years. In 2012 he sent the car off to DG Sports Cars (formerly David Gerald Sports Cars) for a body off refurbishment. The following work was completed at that time or thereabouts:
• Suspension rebuilt with new bushes and shocks
• Radiator fans rewired and fitted with Kenlows
• Electronic Ignition
• Rewired with relays and fuses on individual circuits
• Replumbed brakes
• Fuel tank refurbished
• Heads converted to unleaded
• Gearbox rebuilt
• Seats reupholstered
• Uprated demist fan
• New seat belts
• Bluetooth radio
The car was last MOT’d in 2013 but then put into storage and sat unused for ten years. During my ownership, I have carried out the following work.
• Refurbished wheels and new tyres
• Clutch with new master & slave cylinders
• New fuel lines and new genuine Weber DG38 carb
• Front suspension bushes, ball joints, track rod ends and trunnions as required
• New front bumpers
• Front brake discs, flexis and one caliper
• High torque starter motor
• Adjustable SPAX shock absorbers and springs
I have driven about 1250 miles in it. It starts easily, runs well and is good fun. It has a 4 speed gearbox with overdrive. It still needs a few additional jobs doing to bring it up to the next level. These include the rear suspension bushes, which have deteriorated over time and the Webasto roof needs recovering. The interior is good, but the carpet needs finishing in the driver and passenger footwells. As the car is nearly 50 years old, there are sure to be other areas that will need addressing or could be improved. I have enjoyed owning the car, but it is not getting the attention it deserves.
