Description
1972 6 Cylinder 2600cc 109" Station Wagon.
Reported to have been owned by St. John's Ambulance service (evidenced by the all white paint job). Had been off the road for many years when I acquired it in 2023, the body-shell had been lifted off for chassis repairs - the previous owner had attempted the repairs, but eventually given up. The owner before that was going to do the well known V8 conversion, but I preferred to return it to the straight 6 configuration. The engine I found was the one used by Rover for its saloons and Land Rovers, this one came with the SU cylinder head variant.
The colour was returned to its original Marine Blue / Limestone combination after removing the white.
* During the restoration, the following work was carried out:
* New Richard's Chassis
* Re-galvanised window frame and galvanised parts
* Bulkhead rebuilt / restored
* New Parabolic Springs
* New shock absorbers
* Recored radiator
* New alternator
* Engine overhaul, carburettor rebuilt, valves reground, new clutch etc.
* New exhaust system
* New Battery
* Swivel hubs restored
* Wheel bearings and seals replaced
* New braking system components : master cylinder, servo, slave
cylinders, brake linings.
* Michelin Latitude Cross 7. 50R16 tyres fitted.
* Interior refitted, new vinyl to door cards, dashboard, roof lining. Having previously restored a 1951 Series 1 Land Rover over the Covid period, I wanted a new project promising a less "agricultural" vehicle, and 6146 HX turned up. Over the last 2 years, I've returned it to close to its original spec, but added a galvanised chassis. It's passed an MOT and is now a proper 6 cylinder 10 seater Station Wagon, fully restored and ready to go. 6146 HX is registered as an HISTORIC VEHICLE and so is zero rated Road Tax
