Description
UK supplied RHD 1968 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia.
A UK spec right hand drive Karmann Ghia in this condition is a rare thing.
A brief history: The car left Osnabrück, painted in Regatta Blue, on the 12th October 1967. It arrived in Ramsgate on the 21st October 1967. It was driven until around 1977 when it was garaged and there it stayed until 2001.
A VW enthusiast bought the car and restored it over a period of four years from 2001 to 2005, spending hundreds of hours and over £21, 000 on a nut and bolt restoration, a real labour of love. I have two bulging folders stuffed full of receipts and photographic documentation of this work. He sold the car in 2008 and it has had two owners before me. The second of which drove it once then had it stored where it remained for around 6 years. I believe the car has had only five owners, spending 34 years of its lifetime off the road being stored or restored, which explains the odometer showing 82, 500 miles.
The wheels are original and restored ‘with hearts’ 4. 5 x15” 1968 Porsche Fuchs alloys, worth around £3 – 5k alone as a matching set of four. The interior is lovely, kitted out in Newton Commercial carpets with stock wood-grain dash.
Floorpans, heater channels and sills are all rust free. The 1500cc engine runs beautifully and is fitted with stainless steel valves and 85. 5mm (1600cc) barrels and pistons.
The clock does’t work, obviously, the radio does work, but there are no speakers. There are two sets of keys.
The car was profiled in Ultra VW magazine in April 2007 and won Best Karmann Ghia at Bug Jam 2006.
It’s been looked after by the Karmann Ghia Centre with no expense spared and has always been stored in a dry garage. An indoor dust cover and outdoor cover are included in the price.
