Description
MK1 Escort Mexico, this is a three-owner car with low mileage. This is an original model type 49 shell and has not been restored. However, it did have a pair of wings about 15 years before I purchased the car in 2012. At the same time, I believe the car was resprayed and had the Mexico decals applied. Originally, it had the pinstripe, and there is still evidence of the original decals inside the doors; the wing badges are Mexico, not 1600GT.
The strut tops are original, the O/ S has the chassis number, and the N/ S has the registration date stamped on it.
The long stem steering rack was rebuilt by Kiley Clinton in Birmingham, as it had some play in it.
It has the BFAT plate under the bonnet; the colour is Monza Blue.
The interior is very good; the back seat looks hardly used. The passenger front seat was repaired not long after I bought the car with some original material, which came from a MKII Cortina 1600E as it uses the same basket weave vinyl. The dashboard is not cracked at all. Since owning the car, it has always been garaged. The car was sold new by Gibbs Brothers in Tredegar and has had a very sedate life; both the engine and gearbox are very good, it drives really well.
I had planned to do a sympathetic restoration, as there are a few bits that need doing, such as the bottom of the passenger door, but due to a bereavement in the family, this was put on hold.
I am selling the car as I just don't drive it. I don't need to sell it, I just feel that someone else may appreciate it more and actually drive it. I am based just outside of Yeovil, Somerset, where the car can be viewed by appointment.
Serious enquiries and buyers only please.
