Description

I have restored this car as far as my budget allows.
It is original and unmodified. It has the owners manual with partial service history, spare keys (the original key that works on doors, boot and ignition, and the key for the petrol cap x 2 sets)
Original glass (VIN# etched on all windows). It's current number plate is the same reg number that is in the service book.
Engine & Body numbers match the official registration papers. All original factory stickers are still under the bonnet and in the engine bay. Vehicle came from Worcester (inland) so has no rust.
Work carrier out:
- Seats refurbished by upholsterer
- Roof and hatch resprayed due to sun damage
- Service including new cambelt (and tensioner), new vee-belt. All fluids drained and replaced incl Gearbox, brake fluid & coolant.
- New rear wheel cylinders, new shoes and skimmed drums.
- New vacuum and fuel hoses
- Gear-linkage rubbers replaced
- New tappet-cover gasket
- New waterpump
- Alignment (front & back wheels)
Engine doesn't smoke and no blow-by through breather-pipe. I have been caught in a 2 hrs traffic jam with the car and the temperature never went above normal operating temperature.
I would say this car is about 75% perfect. Its is 99% complete with no bits missing down to the smallest detail. Someone who has money and time can still do the following:
- analogue clock on the dash cluster works intermittently
- front and rear window Washers don't work (everything is there - but to he honest I haven't even tried to fix them yet)
- Interior fan also works intermittently (it was blocked with leaves. I removed as many as I could and got the fan motor working again, but sometimes it sucks in another leaf that I couldn't get out and stops)
- mirror on passenger side sunvisor is missing.
- crease (dent) on driver's side rear door that is minor enough that I haven't bothered to get it repaired. It's about 150mm long.
- There is really very little else that needs doingThere are many Golf Mk1's in SA because they made them up until around 2010, but to find a 33-year old vehicle that is this original and neat, inside and out, is difficult. When air bought it, it needed TLC but it was worth the effort because it hadn't been modified in any way.
This car gets attention everywhere it goes. It is fun and engaging to drive and goes really well. I will actually be sad to see it go. Please Note: bumpers have been resprayed since these pics were taken. I have all receipts and many pics of all the restoration process
