Background:
The XJ-S was launched in 1975 only in coupe form and only with the 5. 3 litre V12 engine, it had various updates and option changes including a smaller 3. 2 litre engine and a cabrio version in the 1980s. In the early 90s after Ford took over Jaguar and were determined to improve build quality and reliability, they launched the Facelift model in 1992 with the model name XJS without the hyphen. It was a complete reworking of the car with different lights, most noticeably the rear, a new grill design and elimination of door vent windows. The interior received new round instruments with wood surround and colour keyed dash, with Ford style keys. The AJ6 six-cylinder engine was increased to 4. 0 Litres it was a 6 cylinder of 3980cc with cast alloy block and head, 24 valves operated by twin overhead camshafts producing 219HP. In 1994 for the last 2 years of production the engine was extensively updated. The Jaguar engineering team (under the new Ford management) had further developed the engine, so it was given a new designation, the AJ16. The XJS received the developed AJ16 from 1994 to the end of production, this car has the AJ16 engine.
The engine retained the same dimensions, capacities and configuration with over 100 modifications and improvements including revised inlet and exhaust ports, new cams with higher lift and lighter valves giving a compression ratio of 10:1, other changes included a new cylinder head, lighter pistons, coil on plug direct electronic ignition and most importantly the use of General Engine Management System (GEMS). This allowed fully sequential fuel injection and advanced engine sensing making the AJ16 much smoother, more powerful and more economic than the AJ6, the 4 Litre AJ16 in the XJS develops 238BHP and can deliver up to 26MPG compared to 219BHP and up to 23MPG for the 4 Litre AJ6 (pre-1994) and the V12 at up to 19MPGFirst registered October 1994, Only 3 owners from new, always garaged never driven in winter, salt and rust free,
