The Drive – A Truly Memorable Experience
This Capri 280 drives like a dream. The car is incredibly responsive, smooth, and effortless to drive, especially after replacing the Fuel Distributor and Warm-Up Regulator. I’ve replaced everything related to the fuel injection system for complete peace of mind.
The car pulls away without hesitation, shifting through the gears seamlessly, with no jerky movements, even when shifting down. The Janspeed exhaust produces an incredible sound. At low revs gives a gentle purr, but press on the throttle, and it roars into life.
The bodywork on this Capri has been restored to an exceptional standard. The paintwork gleams, and the chassis is in fantastic condition. The restorer commented that any car can be restored, but the condition of the chassis is key to a successful restoration, and this one passed the test with flying colours. The underside is as impressive as the top, with no signs of rust or deterioration.
It’s been garage-kept and only driven on dry days, which means it’s in superb condition.
The gearbox was fully refurbished by Alan Voight, a renowned expert in T9 gearboxes. He confirmed that the gearbox was in great condition, but I opted for the refurbishment for peace of mind. Every gear shift, including reverse, is smooth, precise, and effortless.
The electrical system in this car is fully functional, with no issues whatsoever. The modern DAB radio connects easily to your phone via USB, and the bass box installed by the restorer adds a great depth to the sound system.
The interior is in excellent condition. While the dashboard restoration didn’t hold up perfectly (it’s developed a few bubbles), I have a replacement dashboard with only minor hairline cracks that I’ll include with the car.
The original parcel shelf was structurally weak, so I replaced it with a new one from the Capri Club.
The tyres are practically new, all from the same brand, including the spare. The alloys have been professionally restored and are in perfect condition.
For added durability, I’ve replaced certain parts with marine-grade materials, such as the Jubilee clips, ensuring that the car stays in top shape for many years to come.
The dash facia currently installed I think is from a Tickford. It’s a rare piece, and you don’t see many Capris with it. If you prefer a standard black facia, I do have one available for purchase.
In addition to the car, I’m offering a host of extras that add extra value to the sale. These include:
• The domain 280brooklands and website comes with the car.
• I’ve collected a number of magazines over the years, many of which feature Capri-related articles.
• A large collection of spare parts and bits and bobs..
I’ve owned this Capri 280 with the intention of keeping it for a very long time. I spent countless hours searching for the perfect example, and at the time, perfect models were going for £45k+. I realised that bodywork and paintwork were the most important aspects to get right, and everything else could be replaced or sourced later. I went all in on this project, replacing virtually everything, from nuts and bolts to the entire fuel injection system.
I’ve invested an incredible amount of time and effort into this car, not just to restore it but to improve and preserve it for the long term.
The main reason I have to part with her is that the owner of the garage where she's stored has sadly passed away. With probate nearly finished, I need to move her out.
